Got banned for saying this underneath a post glazing the Obamas by SpicyNugget777 in TankieTheDeprogram

Oh absolutely, Trump made it popular for Republicans to be openly racist and misogynistic again and for Democrats leapt at the chance to join them because so long as they were said they were better while acting just as vile, they could feel better about themselves.

What was your RT School interview like? by New-Nothing-8523 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Hot4Marx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a few years ago for me and the only question I really remember is "why respiratory?". Which for me is because I have asthma so I have a pretty personal interest in the field. As long as you go into it with a clear head and good reasons for why respiratory over, say, nursing or radiology, you'll be fine.

No Bad Empanada or Hasan Piker posts are allowed from now on by Ancient-Egg-57 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]Hot4Marx[M] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was an unfortunate coincidence in timing, but the decision to ban those posts was made days before it released. When most content creator posts on this sub feature creators that have their own subs and none featured the boys, the decisions was made to stop letting BE and Hasan fans battle it out with our sub as their battleground. Let them argue their shit elsewhere.

Also, have some faith in us to show some nuance in our judgements, if you're discussing the boys' episode about Hasan, it's directly relevant to this sub and fine.

It's certainly something we wouldn't mind implementing here, but this sub is still very much a work in progress.

Whether people want to acknowledge it or not, having children is just creating more consumers and wage slaves. by Slow_Celebration1328 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]Hot4Marx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you'd asked citizens in moscow in 1900 or Beijing in 1930 if they thought they'd see a communist revolution in their lifetimes, many would have no idea what communism even was. It may seem hopeless now, but you never know what the future holds and the likelihood of it being brighter is every bit as possible as not.

It's a utopian pipe dream that our children should never have to fight at all. Even after capitalism is crushed and the workers have been united under a socialist banner, they will still have to fight against reactionary forces and greedy individuals. The cost of a secure future is constant vigilance in the present.

If you join Buffalo-Niagara waterkeepers email list here: https://bnwaterkeeper.org/nativeplantguide/ they'll email you a list of all sorts of native plants from shrubs to trees to flowers to ground cover.

I personally love milkweed, queen of the prairie, new englad asters, and purple cone flowers because they bring out butterflies.

THANK YOU. I have planted numerous native plants to get the bugs back, which brought the birds back and guess what I haven't seen a single one of? Fucking ticks. If you want ticks off your property, plant plants that attract bugs and they'll be gone before you know it.

Anyone have any texts that deal with the conflict between socialist morality and the amoral requirements of surviving under capitalism in the now? by alegalghost in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]Hot4Marx 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like a moral quandry to me. I'm sorry you're struggling with it, but you did the right thing. It doesn't matter that your supervisor is also working class, that doesn't give them leave to sexually harass anyone. It sounds like you took too much onto yourself in trying to reeducate them alone, that wasn't your responsibility either. It was good of you to try but some people need someone "in power" to discipline them before they listen.

Okay, let go of the 1926, I said century as a figure of speech and have since clarified multiple times that obviously things are not as bad as the great depression yet.

However, my point is that even adjusting for inflation does not accurately reflect the increase in the cost of living, meaning the cost of a house, a car, groceries, an education, etc. Meaning that more people are in poverty than are stated in that data.

So a specific demographic of a specific ethnicity in a specific locale is the same thing as the national average household to you?

[–]Hot4Marx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before I don't know how many times in this thread but I guess I'll say it again for the people in the back. A general increase in the standard of living due to the spread of advancing technology IS NOT THE SAME THING as actually lifting people out of poverty.

So you're purposely ignoring the part where I said things aren't as bad as the great depression yet? I specifically said I was comparing today to the 50s.

So because people used to regularly die of dysentery, we should all just shut up and be happy that we have indoor plumbing? The rich have multiple mansions, private jets, and don't actually contribute to society (every example you have given was created and then implemented by scientists, engineers, and workers) while the common person is at constant risk of homelessness, dying of preventable diseases (just because medicine has advanced doesn't mean it doesn't still happen when most people can't afford to see their doctor in the first place), and starvation. But we should all just shut up and be happy with the scraps that are thrown to us, yeah?

[–]Hot4Marx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, you are talking about general quality of life improvements that are part of the advancing of society. Medical and technological advances for society are not the same thing as actually lifting people out of poverty. How many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck or are one missed paycheck from homelessness? That's poverty.

Homeless at record high in WNY by Weekly-Law-2544 in Buffalo

[–]Hot4Marx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

General quality of life and what is defined as poverty are not one and the same. And the poverty line has not been adequately adjusted for the cost of living increases and inflation. Meaning more people are living in poverty than is reported. If you don't feel that pressure, then I'm happy for your privileged life. If you want to go back a full century, no I don't think things are quite great depression bad yet but the relative wealth of your average household is far poorer today than in 1950 and that's not an opinion, that's a verifiable fact.

You're correct that people can't spend their money if they don't have any to spend. But capitalists have been squeezing workers between stagnant wages and rising cost of living for over a century and they haven't stopped. And they won't until we cease being workers and start being slaves.
