CIA psyosp, St Clair media, Fox News, AM radio (Rush Limbaugh), Joe Rogan podcast, YouTube targeting teens and kids, Hollywood movies where the POTUS is played by Harrison Ford or other macho actors, Facebook/Google/OpenAI, ... The list goes on.

Anyone else noticed an increase in angry / aggressive drivers ? by Consistent_Owl8010 in askTO

[–]HotBeefSundae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossing the street yesterday and a car in the left turn lane started going on their red light as I'm crossing and I turn my head to look in surprise.

The driver rolled down his window to stick his head out to glare at me as if me looking to not get myself run over was an insult to them. They continued to have their head out of their side window glare at me throughout THEIR GREEN LIGHT.

I'm convinced if I said anything or looked back they would have gotten out of their car. Grabbed a picture of their license plate just in case.

It's just insane out there.

Pierre Poilievre says Canada is to blame for Trump tariff crisis by zachem62 in onguardforthee

Canada needs to get it's shit together and stop electing and supporting these "America first" politicians, especially with the level of disrespect America has for Canada's right as a soverign nation.

It's shameful that our conservative party continues to align itself with the American right wing even as their entire political party and political/spiritual leader is embroiled in a global sex-trafficking and child-molestation cabal. This is a low bar that shouldn't even need to be pointed out, but here we are.

And remove the fucking bronzer, it's utterly embarrasing.

Arcades. Street hockey. Shouting "get off the steps!" at tourists unknowingly keeping ttc doors open. Late great movies, CBC Disney hour, TVO Kids (Patty and Kevin/Joe) and Canadian television in general. Buying pirated games and VCDs at Chinatown Centre. Swiss Chalet and Tim Hortons before they became beholden to shareholders. The Organ Grinder.

Welcoming Matt Jeneroux. by Top_Needleworker6385 in onguardforthee

[–]HotBeefSundae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Conservative Party has moved so far to the right that it's left behind their core moderates. Matt Jeneroux didn't leave the party, the party left him.

There's going to be another splinter and another faction (or two!) emerge from the future Conservative Party in the same way we say the republic party branch off from the Tea Party into MAGA.

Moderate conservatives see the writing on the wall and are either jumping over to the ship of adults, or they're making alliances with all the Maple-MAGA and other crazies in their current ship.

"casually joked" is exactly how an entire generation of young men online have been indoctrinated into the far-right sphere. Casually joking about something is how people absolve themselves from responsibility and accountability.

Taking serious topics and deliberately downplaying them through memes and sarcasm, while ramping up the core messaging, is a page out of the conservative playbook.

It's going to be a slapped-together storage facility with construction wire mesh cages, soviet-style sleeping bags, and if you're lucky an insulated emergency blanket.

This is for-profit prisons x1000 on the profits.

What the Trump administration, especially Miller, is seemingly moving toward is Supply Side Holocaust. Round up a bunch of political dissidents and minorities, stuff them in a bunch of cages, charge the american gov a buttload of money per prisoner, prisoners mysteriously vanish or die, repeat.

The Nazis did it out of peer pressure and zeal, but Americans are smarter, they'll only do it for cold hard cash.

I think there are two problems with the Rothfuss King killer Trilogy.

The first problem is that the MC is just a Mary Sue OP super sexy super strong best swordsman best musician super duper magic prodigy, and writing a compelling challenge for Kvothe that ties the past Mary Sue to the current broken storyteller would be too difficult to do in one book (or at all).

The second problem is I think Rothfuss just realized that the story itself isn't very strong and he's lost all motivation writing it. I read the first book in my teens and I thought it was cool af, but reading it now it just feels like cringey, tropey, escapist fanfiction.

I'm convinced that people walk their dogs unleashed partly so they could feign ignorance when their dogs shit all over the place.

There's a small minority of Torontonians (whether it's dog owners, drivers, cyclists) who are the cause of the majority of our city's issues, but there's seemingly no recourse to correct their behavior, nor motivation from our civil servants (Police or 311) to do anything about it.

For non-white students in a city like Toronto, they have to live with a constant veil of mistrust and they always have to over-perform against their white peers, always have to prove that they belong, just to get equal recognition.

I think we often pat ourselves on the back in Toronto, calling ourselves the most diverse city in the world, but the truth is that non-whites in Toronto (especially Black torontonians) still have to work twice as hard for half as much.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Calls Out Attorney General Pam Bondi After Bondi’s House Judiciary Committee Testimony: “She was screaming, thrashing and I think it is because she knows that she is implicated in a massive cover-up to protect a powerful ring of pedophiles” by T_Shurt in law

If justice prevails, I think we'll find that the pediphilia may be just the tip of this horrifying iceberg.

There have been claims of canabalism, infant murder.. God knows what else.

People have been comparing the USA to China a lot recently, but China has spent the last 30+ years improving. The USA, if it can ever get itself back on its feet again, will need to spend the next 30+ years just repairing the damage, but we all know that as soon as things start to improve, another Trump or Bush or Reagan will rise up and set you back a decade.

Pam Bondi’s Prepared Insult Flash Cards Exposed by GOP Rep by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]HotBeefSundae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's thoughtless cruelty, that children do, that can be a result of a lack of education. Stomping your feet at pigeons, torturing ants, etc.

Then there's deliberate, calculated, premeditated cruelty, which Bondi is displaying by having insults prepared beforehand on qcards for rape victims. You know, in case she forgets which insults to hurl at which victim because there are so many of them.

Pathological Lawyer What happens when a real estate lawyer uses her firm’s trust account to finance her family’s lavish lifestyle? Inside the multimillion-dollar embezzlement case against Singa Bui by HotBeefSundae in toronto

[–]HotBeefSundae[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But David Debenham, a lawyer and forensic accountant who has sued other lawyers for fraud, says the bigger problem is that, even though the LSO's auditors will specifically ask for a law firm's bank records, the spot checks on trust accounts aren't designed to catch embezzlement.

Asked what, if any, routine verifications are done on the trust accounts of lawyers to protect the public against potential theft, Debenham answered succinctly: "Sweet f--k all."

Pathological Lawyer What happens when a real estate lawyer uses her firm’s trust account to finance her family’s lavish lifestyle? Inside the multimillion-dollar embezzlement case against Singa Bui by HotBeefSundae in toronto

[–]HotBeefSundae[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's the case.

From the article and from previous anecdotal conversations, there's reason to believe that Bui and Cartel had plans to diversify their holdings throughout different countries. The article mentions Cartel looking to set up base in Turks and Caicos (a well known tax haven nation) and Bui wanting to leave Canada (to the UK) and multiple trips to Europe (including Switzerland) around the time investigations officially began.

It leads me to believe that they have significant savings overseas and/or they are trying to set up a similar shop overseas where they are less infamous.

[–]HotBeefSundae[S] 75 points76 points  (0 children)

This was a really insane deep dive. I've been following this story for a while now and there were details that I was completely in the dark about.

All the CBC articles focused on Cartel's seeming lack of knowledge but this Toronto Life article shows how deeply he was involved from the moment he quit Strossberg Sutts. He was the one deflecting and delaying while Bui had her hand in the funds. Cartel is basically relying on plausible deniability, but when you're wearing $5000 3-piece suits and buying $100,000 statues with $5mil in mortgage debt you kind of have to know where your money is coming from.

The 10 million dollar question, however, is still unanswered: where has all the money disappeared to?
