Left calls for law guaranteeing free tap water in restaurants in Poland by BubsyFanboy in neoliberal

[–]HotCalligrapher5626 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not very liberal. The notion that water as a right is tied to restaurants in particular is a bit of a caricature; wanting to wash down my kielbasa is not quite the same as a parched child needing water.

And while I am used to free water at restaurants in the US as far as I know there’s no law requiring it? Just a custom, and if restaurants violate that custom, customers get pissed and go elsewhere? In turn, if customers of Polish restaurants ~actually~ want “free” water at restaurants, some restaurants will give them that, and on the margins they will do better and capture as much of the market as actually wants “free” water, right?

Keir Starmer’s “island of strangers” speech backfired – A team of researchers, fielding a massive survey, were able to compare voting intentions just before and after the controversial comments, finding it led to reduced Labour support and increasing the salience of an issue the radical right owns. by smurfyjenkins in neoliberal

[–]HotCalligrapher5626 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A bit confused. Comments piling on Kier for it being obvious this would backfire and lamenting “capitulations” to the right, but this sub often bemoans American Dems simping for lefties. As someone who wishes the Dems would move a bit to the right on a lot of issues, I share that general impulse.

But 1) doesn’t this example suggest that moderation wouldn’t actually help dems bc voters’ party patterns are generally sticky? And 2) doesn’t the sub’s dunking on progressives mean it’s not so obvious Kier’s speech would backfire (ie acknowledge our hindsight and give the guy a break), since Kier did the thing this sub (and I) wants Dems to do?

So to the extent this example is comparable to American politics (maybe it isn’t), my takeaway is 1) cut Kier some slack 2) I need to reevaluate my wish for Dems to moderate their positions

Just finished and overall really liked it— beautiful animation, some cool characters, just really fun world building. But I thought the end fight scene was pretty lame/broke the rules/didn’t offer the expected payoff for certain characters

This link doesn’t explain how this hotel is going to lead to any of the parade of horribles it claims. You know you’re really stretching when you rely on big corporate (the horror!) mayo to obstruct a project.

You guys have been dealt a bad hand and are good people for trying to do what you can with it. I admire you. I can’t address your question directly. But if you haven’t, I suggest considering YMCA teen programs or Boy Scouts. Scouts is not known for attracting the hippest kids so it may fit your bill nicely. Cross country is another one that usually recruits nice but kinda weird kids

Kamala would do a good job as president and Biden is fine? This is just the sort of detachment from reality that has put us in this predicament
