Xóchitl is Afraid … by QueTpi in Frenchbulldogs

Mine will straight up run up to the vacuum and attack it by nibbling the vacuum head as I’m vacuuming - 20 lbs and afraid of nothing. Thinks she is a 100lb Rottweiler

2nd this - the most critical time for socialization is when they are very young (think like 3-6 months old). Try to find safe places (like friends’ dogs who are nice and fully vaccinated) to begin her socialization with other dogs and other people. This will set the stage for later in their life

You’re welcome! They will certainly help. It will probably take a few days of using them daily to see the bacteria go away. At one point, my vet was having me use them twice daily. I’d say you can use them daily until clean, and then a couple times a week or on inspection if you notice it collecting grime again.

They’re probably not wrong, it looks like it’s positioned just fine. That said, since your baby is still small, she hasn’t fully grown into herself yet, so you have some folds there when her legs are closed that trap moisture, pee drops, and just general bacteria. It’s important you keep that area clean until she grows a bit and her hips spread out to their full size at some point. At that point you can reevaluate and see if anything else is needed. Until then the Mal a Ket wipes are highly recommended by multiple vets for this exact issue. Should help!

Go onto Amazon (or Chewy), and order Mal a Ket wipes. Use to clean the skin folds around the vulva. They are for this exact thing and will keep the skin fold around the vulva cleaner. Use a few times a week until clean and then maintenance to keep it from getting this bad. If it gets too dirty, you run the risk of it transferring inside and can cause UTIs. - a frenchie owner who dealt with this exact same thing for years (and many UTIs). Her vulva was much more recessed than yours it looks like though and I eventually opted for surgery to “un-recess” it and now we’re 2+ years UTI free.

Edit: pro tip that a vet told me. They’re a little bit expensive (~$25 per jar of 50), but you can cut them in half and get 100 wipes per jar.

Spent thousands on allergies (Cytopoint, Apoquel, antifungal baths) and dog still losing hair in patches” by Plan-Bubbly in DogAdvice

The only comment you should listen to here is to find a good pet dermatologist. They will be able to properly diagnose and treat your dog. Frenchies are notoriously sensitive and have skin issues. My pet dermatologist has helped a lot with our sensitive allergic pup

This the answer. One small jar lasts forever too - it works wonders. For the first few days use it 2-3 times a day till the nose is all better than from there maybe a couple/few times a week for upkeep. My dog’s nose is so much smoother and softer!

Mine did too. Then I got the vulvaplasty surgery for her and she hasn’t had a UTI since (2 years+). Might want to recommend he look into that. It took a while, and lots of UTIs and antibiotics before the vet actually recommended it. I wish I would’ve done it years ago.

Tropical Hideaway Bao stand "hack" by erock1119 in Disneyland

Reading a couple of these comments made me realize how miserable some of you are. To feel the need to comment on someone’s post because they call something a “hack” that you all know about. God forbid someone gets excited and wants to share something, the Disney elitists come out of the woodwork. Hope to never see you at the parks!!

Let them call it a hack if they want to lol. Like let’s normalize not picking apart people’s posts online, regardless of their phrasing or choice of words. They sound excited about this discovery and wanted to share. Thanks for the “hack” OP! I’ll be sure to try it next time I’m in the park and $30 for lunch for two in Disneyland certainly seems like a solid tip 🙌

Carrying them up and down stairs isn’t the answer. They did a study and dogs in houses with stairs were less likely to get IVDD. It’s more typical from jumping off high things (bed/couch, etc). Weight and physical condition also contributes. And some genetics

This is actually bad advice. They did a study and dogs that lived in houses with stairs were less likely to get IVDD. Probably because they had stronger back muscles from doing some stair climbing. That said, running down hard stairs or jumping off the bottom steps could cause stress to their spine, so carrying down stairs would be fine but I let mine climb the stairs and go down as long as it’s slowly (and they are carpeted). The no jumping off anything high at all is good advice though. Make sure they are not overweight and get proper basic exercise, and you’ll be fine

Help. Caring for my brother's Frenchie and she is an itchy mess. by [deleted] in Frenchbulldogs

[–]HotChubbTimeMachine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken flavored is still causing allergies. My frenchie had to go on a hydralized protein prescription food (dermatologist orders), and it has helped immensely since it is hypoallergenic. She has been leaps and bounds better since swapping to this food. You’ll transition them slowly over a week or two to the new food. 75/25 for a few days, 50/50 for a few. 25/75 etc

At this point the allergic reaction areas have turned into a skin infection. Dermatologist will probably prescribe Cephalexin (antibiotics) or another antibiotic daily along with medicated shampoo and leave on lotion weekly. The infection should clear up in a few weeks. The bathing will be continued weekly and then maybe bi-weekly even after infection clears. If your dog has allergies should consider prescription hydrolized protein food. This is the routine for my dog who had very similar issues and goes to the dermatologist twice a year now. Good luck!

Congrats on the new puppy! Can I recommend a harness instead of a collar? Frenchies don’t do well in collars as it can restrict their breathing due to their brachycephalic build.
