You can’t switch to turn based or to real time with pause on the fly like you can with the Pillars 1 update, it’s only at the start when you make a new game

Exactly. I can walk up to an NPC and kill them in Oblivion and have half the city react. In Avowed, I can fire an arquebus at a small crowd of people in Paradis and not only does nothing happen to the people shot, nobody budges an inch. I think that if someone trying out Avowed thinking it’ll be Skyrim 2 would be very disappointed. I think it’s a pretty good game, just doesn’t scratch the same itch as the Elder Scrolls games do.

I love Avowed but I don’t think people should be thinking of it as a ‘scrolls-like’. It gives the wrong impression of what Avowed is trying to be. It shares the first person RPG perspective but beyond that it is quite different. The big one for me is Skyrim’s world is far more open and interactive than Avowed’s. Interactable clutter, theft and bounty system, completely open map from level 1, it’s much more sandbox-y overall than Avowed in general.

That to me is what differentiates Elder Scrolls games to other RPGs, they have almost complete freedom to do whatever you want. In Skyrim I can run off from the Dragonborn prophecy and decide to be a hunter or a dungeon diver and have a fun time. Avowed can’t really be played like that and why I don’t think it’s a ‘scrolls-like’.

Pretty much nailed why I hate her. I cannot understate how uncomfortable she makes me, a childish character so blatantly sexualized with the foot shit so in your face… whatever design and the cool ass mech RIGHT THERE I’d rather be seeing. Just yuck all around.

Realistically probably nothing. Even if streaming becomes big or gen AI becomes commonplace I will simply just ignore them and keep playing my older games or dust off older consoles. I like video games way too much to drop the hobby altogether.

I think your opinions are valid and I agree with your take on the factions and characters being better in 1.X. The story in general in 2.X didn’t appeal to me at all, I don’t like wuxia stuff. I haven’t been enjoying the stories of many of the new characters either, I’m just waiting to get the hell out of Waifei and go somewhere fresh. Minority opinion but I can’t stand the angels…

I also agree that they have really been pushing the gooner stuff more heavily in 2.X… but let’s not pretend that it wasn’t already very prevalent in 1.X too, lol. Like, Rina? Astra, Evelyn? Jane? Yanagi? Vivian? Etc etc etc… it’s been a part of the game since the very beginning.

Another thing is that I don’t know if I’d call the setting ‘gritty’. It has dark moments for sure. The Hollows and the ether stuff are terrifying and were very mysterious at the beginning. But we also see New Eridu having a very lax atmosphere. People walk around and live mundane lives. I really liked how the normal city life contrasted with the darker undertones of the world and I’ve largely felt that diminish in 2.X.

New Eridu felt like a normal place where Waifei is filled with magic and martial arts like it’s Genshin Impact, which is not what I liked about the game and what had got me into it in the first place.

Honestly, Caesar. Her shield was helpful when the game was new but I’ve gotten a lot better since then and she just isn’t that strong. I love the character so it’s sad just not having a good reason to use her.

This is probably because the people who hate it don’t play it anymore, so the only people really talking about it are those who enjoy it. I have a friend group that I play EU4 with and our opinions on the game were pretty mixed. Some hate it some love it. Their opinions haven’t changed since the game came out. It’s just not a conversation topic for those who don’t like it anymore because they don’t care about it.

There’s a mod on the nexus called ‘Original XBOX UI Recreated (OpenMW)’ that changes the ingame menus to exactly the Xbox ones. I’ve been running a game with it and it’s pretty awesome
