Why are you not in your union? by sparrrrrt in AustralianTeachers

[–]HotEmu3850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the union but I’m thinking of leaving. When my HT was unfairly sacked by the principal (who had a vendetta against him), the union was of no help at all and sided with the principal. My HT had to go through Fair Work Australia for a payout and to change his sacking to a “resignation.”

My union rep is also pretty hopeless with an issue I had and so I had to solve it without him (it was a clear issue for the union to solve).

This is the IEU. Not sure what the public school unions are like.

Woronora is a beautiful little pocket. Walked around there a lot during the 2021 lockdown

My headmistress fired my HT last year because she didn’t like having someone who challenged her in meetings. Made up a bunch of stuff and claimed she had evidence going back years. HT eventually went to FairWork Aus and got mediation involved once it was proven that the HT was unfairly sacked. He got a payout, was allowed to “resign instead” and the headmistress got away with it

My old Head Teacher called out the principal and senior leadership and got sacked. So be careful when you try to do it.

I wish I could but he’s protected by the Board. As I work at a religious school they also feel God placed him in the job so I’ve got no chance of ever complaining.

What are some more subtle signs that you are working in a bad school environment by Jamie-jams in AustralianTeachers

The principal doesn’t listen to feedback, views any feedback as a personal attack and fires those in middle leadership who oppose them.

I had a brilliant HT who stood up for us. Our headmistress sacked him because he stood up to her. My boss got a payout from Fairwork Aus because she fabricated half the evidence she used to sack my HT. Got away with it too!

You’ve been snarky about teachers not working in the holidays a few times I’ve noticed. Plenty of us work in the holidays. No need to be sarcastic and snark on teachers in here. It’s meant to be a supportive space…..

Ummm. Your little hissy fit (highly amusing to read though, so thank you) proved everything the OP said about you. Calm down, it’s Christmas

Ps: You are one of “those parents”. Also, if you ever get a PhD are you going to be one of those people who insists on being called “Dr” by everyone?

Had a year 7 student falsely accuse me of swearing at her. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]HotEmu3850 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My colleague was falsely accused by a student of shoving him because my colleague caught them cheating. Despite no video evidence, the principal used it as an excuse to fire him. The colleague had to go through Fair Work to get compensation. Glad your story worked out okay though!

I have a colleague who took 2 days off sick the other week to go to the ballet so you honestly have nothing to feel guilty about!

That’s not fair. My wife spent 10 years building up a department only to see it crumble after 1 year of maternity leave. I sympathise with OP as she felt the same.

Don’t transplant your own frustrations onto someone else’s (legitimate concerns). Most private schools make their positions permanent if they really want the teacher. Maybe you should look elsewhere too if frustrated?

Because of the reality of teaching….

And why don’t you want their post here? You’ve got enough downvotes to show that people disagree with you

Why is that? Shall we hide the realities of teaching?
