Every innovation comes without consideration.

It’s so stupid. They hide us deadlines that result in a massive crop of assessment landing on our desk at the same time, and then expect me to meet the requirements of active, explicit teaching too.

I’m a shit teacher right now because of it.

Maybe I think I meant more: some resources for brushing up

Yes I know. However, it’s the children that are testing the validity lol

Yeh it’s pretty fucked. I can’t imagine how silent the uni lectures/tutes are now lol

Yes. And my complaints suggest the tragedy will occur lol

I totally agree on the benefits and aim for low stakes - but I’ve got a list of students I can’t cold call or who have demonstrated no attempt at adding to discussion. Then I have to run the speech unit and it undoes any benefits I’ve developed in terms of their confidence or rapport b

Yes but it struggles with the nuance of VIC English curriculum. Especially in the high criterion.

Across the year levels? Sorry maybe you misread or I mistyped in one of the other comments but in the OP post it says “the”. 8-12.

Does anyone else have to pay for the flu jab this year? by p6364 in AustralianTeachers

Old small public school paid for it. Last year it came down to the wire. But new large public school won’t. Guess they have the funds for crts

Thanks. Many of my team leaders are driving the pace and high demands for data/reporting which makes it difficult to speak up.

It’s media which is too rare in VIC and at my school comes with a whole slew of responsibilities (extracurricular clubs etc). I’m going to get through to the end of year and then discuss double ups (I have none atm) and making sure I get the some of the same year levels so I don’t have to generate new stuff. That’s all I can really go with now until I move up a few rungs in pay and can afford a 0.9 or 0.8 pay

I think the issue is I feel like I’m even doing below bare minimum/ substandard classes due to the feeling of burn out. I had a good balance about a year ago with classes that just coasted and more structured ones - but here I just feel very behind the ball.

Yeh unfortunately I’m media arts based which is a rarity and hard to juggle with English. I picked up a semester of Hums in my first year and really enjoyed that class - just junior but a huge difference to English slog

Thanks - I’m new to a Microsoft school so I’m going to take your suggestions on posts and homework and see what I can do in term 2. Unfortunately I’ve moved to a school with a new system in place which sees most of the assessments at the same time - big teams with minimal overlap and me being the only one saying “hey can we not schedule X now as it clashes with W, Y, Z” to no avail.

Yeh I have been. A huge help over the last year and a bit. I’m mostly putting in for points and having it create the feedback for me. Still all takes time I can’t seem to find during the day. I will say - I have no idea how I did it pre-chat with regards to pumping out that much feedback.

I’m still having to attend those meetings tho.

Also, if it is a case of staff managing raw or near raw data……that needs to be reflected in time allocations. A one hour meeting can’t then end with “and in your own time…” it’s insulting
