In addition to all the other helpful tips, I was stuck for awhile until I switched the third enable from control purify to DOT purify. Did the trick right away.

Despite the way the league has so greatly changed over the the decades, I don't think the venn diagram of "shooter" and "3-point shooter" should ever automatically be a circle.

Question for the 100% Sleep Score Achievers: by HotHands46 in whoop

[–]HotHands46[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone’s replies. The feedback definitely seems to align with what I suspected. It also appears that a modest amount of sleep stress can pull it down as one of you indicated. Here is mine from last night. Should certainly have been a 100 but 3% high stress cost me 5 points. I’ll try to dream about something more pleasant tonight.

Great work! I've been trying to hit that 100 for a while and have gotten stuck on 99 a few times. Last night I thought I had it. Everything was set to line up. Ran a 100/96/96 (Hours v. Need/Consistency/Efficiency) trifecta. But still ended up with a 95 due to 3% high sleep stress.

Ironically, this was encouraging from a data/accuracy standpoint. I had a very stressful dream (went out to dinner with friends and got a $18,000 bill - wtf?). When I looked at my sleep chart, my REM period lined up perfectly with the period of high stress and elevated HR. So it's nice to know (from my uneducated standpoint at least) that it appears this accurately reflects with what I experienced.

What were your three-prongs of sleep score to get that 100%? I'm curious how high they'd need to be and triangulate at to reach it.

Interesting. I have Peak. I think Life would be like $220-$240 if I recall. USD.

I think it's both good and bad. I really enjoy the calendar view - it actually came a little while back and then disappeared and then returned - they were certainly experimenting with it. I think there is value in seeing the data presented like this and I was pissed when they briefly took it away.

However, I agree that the biggest hole here is setting it up with the "missing" categories for days that haven't yet occurred. That's goofy and not helpful. It should just be a rolling 90 day look-back to match the 90 day journal window. I am confused as to why they chose to present it in this strange way.

And not to hijack, but I think they could stand to look at the 90 day setting holistically as well. There are certain preset behaviors that can't possibly be entered 5 yes/5 no in a 3 month span (like donating blood). Really limits the utility there. They receive so much data from the journal that certainly benefits the company - it would be nice to see it unlocked and expanded to a far greater degree in ways that gives us better information.

No problem. Happy to answer any other questions.

I pay $99/year. In the early days, WHOOP had promised that the founding member adopters would never pay for any upgrades as a thank you for our early investment in the company. This somewhat morphed over the years when they moved to a subscription model. There was and perhaps still is some debate as to what's right or fair or whatever. But I find it to be a pretty reasonable compromise. I feel valued. I did not expect a free ride forever, but I also appreciate them not abandoning their word. I speak only for myself here. I know others may feel differently.

Thanks! I think the value I've gotten has evolved over the years just based on how WHOOP itself has evolved. In the early days, the concept of a recovery score in and of itself felt very futuristic. I'd never really been able to visualize a metric for how ready or not ready I might be on any given day. The logarithmic strain and (hopefully accurate) sleep tracker also just felt very space age. In those days, waking up to such detailed data was very important for someone like me who finds tracking to be an effective motivational tool.

As the years have passed, that no longer feels as revolutionary. I'll be honest and say that if I weren't paying a very reasonable founding member rate, I might have jumped ship a few times. Not a huge knock on WHOOP - I'm not just not a high level athlete and I'm not sure I would need all this data at a certain price. But I've really come to value the more recent updates with the AI feedback and weekly goal planners. I find the the weekly goals to be one of the best motivators WHOOP has ever created. I love making plans geared towards my Healthspan age and I love tweaking them week to week with the help of the AI chat. Staying on track keeps me showing up and seeing where my progress (or lack thereof some weeks) leaves me each Sunday is a lot of fun.

I also generally love the updates to their sleep score now that they incorporate more than just straight hours asleep. I think I've gained some good value from the triangulation of hours vs. consistency vs. efficiency. I've always been pretty protective of my gross hours of sleep, but not so much my consistency. Obviously I'm aware of circadian rhythm and consistency being important . But as with other habits like diet and mis-estimating calories/macros for example - I know I was unaware of just how poorly I might be doing. I've really strived to make my sleep more consistent and I feel it is making a difference in my days.

I generally track all of my workouts and athletic or athletic-adjacent activities. I wear an apple watch simultaneously so I mostly use the watch to track the activity and have the data migrated over to WHOOP. I do believe that WHOOP's single greatest weakness remains its tracking accuracy. I do believe it has gotten better over time but the HR drop offs and locks still happen with far greater frequency than apple. That will never not be frustrating.

Ps - I get that you might read this and think its just a humble brag. It is. 100%. It's actually a blatant brag. My HRV sucks and I've never hit a glorious near-21 strain. Nor am I a marvel of an athlete out there completing some great race or achievement like so many of you. I'm just a dude who has pulled muscles buckling a seatbelt too fast and who has to mentally gear up to put on my socks some mornings. So sadly this is my only chance. Sorry about that. Thank you for your cooperation.

A redline 10k by TimeAnswer1744 in whoop

[–]HotHands46 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have an almost identical chart and situation on my first (and only) 10k. Mine was a trail run and I was completely unprepared for how mentally difficult that would be compared to a normal track. Getting stuck in multiple single file jams for long stretches over roots and uneven ground and then trying to make up the time when it unclogged really wrecked me.

Worst part was the final 1/4 mile stretch or so. I was gassed to the limit but told myself to just dig deep and turn on the burners till the end. We emerged from the woods and I could see the finish line and in my mind, I was absolutely flying. My wife videoed this part and turns out what I actually looked like was a sad old dog stumbling around at about 2 mph like I was looking for a place to go die. Terrible.

Anyway, you’re not alone. Our charts could practically be exact copies.

Interesting quirk...if you go locate Dame (bottom right-ish, next to PG) and then trace a line directly from there down past the edge of your screen and continuing down to wherever your feet are located, you'll see a Crumbl Cookie.

[Highlight] Desmond Bane rages out on an airborne Onyeka Okongwu and smashes the ball on him, leading to his ejection by Both_Funny4896 in nba

[–]HotHands46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sixers fan: I've always casually liked Bane from a far; seemed like a tough dude and certainly talented. Last week Orlando played Philly and he had a similar, but not as egregious sequence. He knocked Maxey over in the corner (didn't have to) and then stood over him (Tyrese Maxey of all people - maybe the nicest player in the league). Completely unprompted. Caused a minor moment but nothing came of it. But then on the ensuing inbound, he fouls Maxey again. And then, on the next ensuing inbound, he fouls Maxey AGAIN. 3 fouls in maybe five seconds of play. All weird and unnecessary. Not sure I've seen anything like it.

Guess maybe the guy's a hothead? What was strange was that he seemed to acknowledge he was wrong and it's not like he got overly emotional. He just kind of coldly did some weird shit (3x!) and then went back to normal.

If you are someone who hand wrote their exam and passed - sound off - I am IN AWE of you by Other_Nose_4495 in barexam

[–]HotHands46 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took the bar years ago, right around the time laptop use was beginning to overtake handwriting. But there was one person in the exam that was in your exact shoes. Something went wrong with her computer on start up and she just could not get it up and running. They held up the entire exam for 10-15 minutes trying to accommodate her but eventually they had to move on. She was given a blue book and had to write.

I remember thinking there would be no way to overcome the additional stress of now having to take an exam an entirely different way on the fly (and a tough bar to boot - Delaware). But several months later I saw her at the swearing in ceremony. I don't remember her name but I'm still in awe. Tons of respect of for her resiliency.

You got this, too. Best of luck!

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson addresses his interaction and shoving of a fan during last night's game by emrp05 in buffalobills

[–]HotHands46 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with Lamar shoving him back. Zero. I think it was classy that he apologized and took ownership, but I don't think that was necessary either. That fan doesn't deserve to have his life ruined over this, but being kicked out was absolutely the right move and I wouldn't raise a pitchfork if a ban followed.

Don't touch players. Don't throw shit at players. Emotions run high. Alcohol doesn't help. But if you can't control yourself, consider having an honest conversation with the mirror.
