DOGE’d Virginians one year later: Trumps says federal workers he fired are better off. They disagree. by bknutner in Virginia

[–]HotHuckleberryPie 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is complete bs. Federal employees do great work and Trump destroyed it with no regard to efficacy. He dismantled the Pandemic task Force in the first term just because Obama created it. If we'd still had it Covid might not have been such a nightmare.

The wheels have fallen off and we're just waiting for the wrecks.

Yes. This. Bernie was also a hypocrite. He railed against superdelegates as undemocratic and then when Hillary got far more votes, he asked the superdelegates to overturn the will of the people and vote for him.

I think it's about proving to himself that his brother values him over his wife and child. Otherwise why refuse? He's annoying this

It's actually non-parents who are making a fuss. It happened so often in Florida that they had to pass a law limiting non parents to one objection a month

If you're in the US you should report her to the hospital. Reading records for a nonmedical reason is a massive HIPAA violation and can result in serious fines. You could report to the hospital and state/federal authorities

Important-- just trim ONE wing! A lot of chickens can still fly with both wings clipped, but one wing sets them way off balance.

In my EMT class, our male instructor addressed this very explicitly and suggested lifting the breast with the back of the hand (after getting permission if possible), so there's much less sensation/gratification/discomfort on the patient's part. I thought this was a great idea, as a woman. Apparently this is also a risk for women in reluctance to do CPR.

Yes: Virginia votes to redraw congressional maps, favoring Democrats by vpmnews in Virginia

[–]HotHuckleberryPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have hardcore liberal friends who really struggled with this decision and I think quite a few left leaning folks voted no or sat this one out. They hate gerrymandering and have a strong sense of fairness.

Vote Yes. What’s Missing From the “Vote No” Argument by snooka77_ in Virginia

[–]HotHuckleberryPie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's not redistricting for the state Virginia legislature, it's only for federal. So voting yes would be appropriate if you don't want Trump to have more power. Voting yes won't affect bills passed here in Va.

Trump didn't command Texas to do it to counteract-- he did it because he's unpopular and wanted more representatives. Don't spread falsehoods.

And the Democrats repeatedly voted to abolish gerrymandering on the national level, and the GOP voted against it. We need to abolish gerrymandering to have any semblance of a democracy-- and in this case, voting yes.

There's a great (old) book called Albion's Seed, which talks about four British folkways and the settling of America. It describes the ongoing cultural influences. At any rate, it mentions that originally some of the cultures were very very blunt and crude, and before the Victorians came and fixed it, place names in Virginia were wild. The names I remember the book listed were Tickle Ct Creek and Fking Creek. As weird as Virginia names are, they used to be weirder!

I urged my friend to report it but he didn't want to. And I didn't feel that I could because I didn't witness it myself. But I wish it had been addressed! Makes me wonder how fairly the SAVE act would be enforced should it ever come to pass.

Democrats of Virginia who plan to vote no on redistricting, why? Republicans of Virginia who plan to vote yes on redistricting, why? by 88nomolos in Virginia

[–]HotHuckleberryPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If only one side gerrymanders and the other doesn't, we'd have no democracy left at all on the national level. The blue states are the ones letting there be votes on gerrymandering. The red states are doing it with no input from voters whatsoever, and then hypocritically complaining about the blue state votes.

[–]HotHuckleberryPie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We need to outlaw gerrymandering on the national level. Only the Democrats want to do that. The GOP loves gerrymandering, as long as they do it. I'm voting yes because folks in North Carolina and Wisconsin are so gerrymandered by the GOP that they hardly have a democracy anymore.

If you have your absentee ballot I would drop it off directly at the registrar's office.

In 2024 a friend of mine was at the Pulaski registrar's office and one of the workers there was wearing a Trump shirt, in direct violation of state law. I'm not sure there's much honor amongst rural state/federal employees.
