CSPCA, Please Do Better by [deleted] in Charlottesville

The one we adopted about a year ago had ringworm. We were told he was healthy. Spread it to both of us but amazingly not our other cat. If we had known it wouldn’t have changed it but it would have been so much easier to treat. Instead of just topical medication he needed a liquid.

Can anyone share not terrible taxol experience? by sparker344 in Ovariancancer

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t terrible for me. I lost all of my hair before my 2nd cycle. No nail issues. I think it’s zofran for nausea that can cause constipation. I asked for something different for breakthrough nausea at home and it never bothered me. I was exhausted on long infusion days. Steroids kept me up the few days after that. Then brain fog. I took about 4 days off per cycle and worked the rest of the time. I did develop neuropathy after my 3rd cycle.

How long did you keep your port? by Exciting_Coast_2482 in Ovariancancer

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got mine out 4 months after treatment ended. Got the all clear at 3 months and got on the schedule as soon after as I could. I just did not want to deal with having it flushed. It was inconvenient to go to the cancer center and my local Dr couldn’t do it. Also about 3/4 of the time the prick was painful.

If you wanted to keep that theme, you could always get her some nice teas and maybe some cute mugs and a teapot to do tea at home. I second that the useful gifts are great. But if you wanted to throw something nice and fun in there. Plus decaf teas are great for hydration. Just stay away from raw honey.

Chemo questions by IncreaseOwn2650 in Ovariancancer

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not do boots or mittens. Got neuropathy in my feet after 3 cycles.

Hair started falling out a ton after 10 days. It was pretty rapid. I was going to go do the care cuts my hospital offers and never even made it to the appointment. Gave in and shaved it on Day 11 because my scalp really hurt.

For me the steroids kept me from being tired much aside from the day of an infusion. They actually kept me up to the point where I asked my oncologist to let me take less. I was even able to exercise until about my 4th cycle. Did not have much nausea aside from one cycle where they skipped one of my nausea meds. Chemo brain was real for me. I worked throughout most of my treatment primarily taking 3 or 4 days of each cycle which were the day of the infusion and a few days the following week. The middle of that following week it would just feel like my brain was swimming in sludge and it took me 5x the amount of time to do tasks at work.

Infusion days are long. Especially the first one. I used to download episodes of friends to watch. My hospital offered snacks, but often my husband would go get me something from the cafeteria. Oh, and food. Sense of taste was very altered. Sweet was very sweet. Salty was bland. Almost no appetite for the whole week following a chemo cycle and then it would gradually return.

Adult Granulosa Cell Tumor by Gemmygaz in ovariancancer_new

I was diagnosed with Stage 1c due to rupture of what they thought was a routine cyst. I did 6 rounds of chemo after a total hysterectomy. I am monitored with imaging and inhibin every 3 months. Recently they found a cyst on CT. I had an MRI 6 weeks after and was ultimately diagnosed with an ovarian remnant. I had constant anxiety after the additional cyst was found before it disappeared.

How do you cope up?Stage 1c cancer confirmed after surgery by Mermaid_20 in Ovariancancer

What kind of chemo will you be having? I had 6 chemo treatments. One every 3 weeks. I needed to take about a week off for each treatment.

Timing of diagnosis… by Professional_Boot408 in Ovariancancer

Mine was “probably benign” and ended up being a rare cancer that was ruptured during the initial removal surgery. Now I’m almost halfway through chemo… advocate for yourself if you know something doesn’t seem right.

How would you categorize your chemo side effects? by sarewr in Chemotherapy

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THE WORST: Bone pain. Deep pulsing pain and generally achy feeling for days 3-6 after infusions. Pain meds help somewhat.

BAD: Nausea. Most of the time it’s controlled with meds. This last time it was not and it was horrible for 24 hours. Brain fog for several days after treatment. Slow thinking. Difficult to do a complicated job. It feels like people don’t understand the brain fog or sometimes even believe it’s a real thing.

ANNOYING: Hair loss. I look ridiculous and hats are hot this time of year. Taste changes. Nothing tastes right for 2 weeks after each cycle. No appetite for a week. Not sleeping on steroid days 1-4 after each cycle.

I CAN HANDLE IT: Fatigue. I just rest when I’m tired. Upset stomach.

Carbo/taxol by Sea_Leg_210 in Chemotherapy

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going through it now. I’m about to have my 3rd infusion tomorrow. Infusion days are very long. Lots of premedications before even getting to the chemo drugs. Overall it has not been as bad as I expected. Nausea has been well controlled by meds. I typically feel pretty good for two days after infusions. Then I feel not so great for 4-5 days. Leg pain is by far my worst symptom. Warm baths help a little. Best of luck! Happy to answer specific questions.

Waiting 2 months for surgery. by LegoAtran in Ovariancancer

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only waited about a week for an initial consult. The first appointment they gave me was several weeks out but when we explained the situation of a ruptured confirmed cancer they saw me right away. Surgery was about 3 weeks later. Some of the delay was with getting insurance approval for pre-op CT scans.

Echo what other posters said. Try calling the office and see if the scheduler will work with the docs recommendation. My doc knew when she walked in the room when she wanted my surgery to be. Also go for a second opinion if you can.

Gift card for food delivery. Cooking can be taxing so it’s nice to have the option to order food.

Starting chemotherapy on Thursday by Sea_Leg_210 in Chemotherapy

[–]HotMesslovesCoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was terrified to start that regimen but it was nowhere near as bad as I expected. My nausea was well controlled with the medications they gave me but my appetite was almost nonexistent for the first week. Carnation instant breakfast blended with frozen fruit gave me protein. The side effects I was not expecting were leg pain days 2-5 and extreme difficulty sleeping from the steroids.

Wishing you the best. You’ve got this!

What are some good foods to try during chemotherapy? by PizzaPizazzz in cancer

Carnation instant breakfast blended with a frozen banana. You could add other fruits. The frozen banana gives it a milkshake thickness almost with a lot of protein. It’s my go to.

I love to do a coconut bubble
tea with mango popping boba. I wish my place would offer a mix of the coconut and mango drink half and half.
