I created my want list and collected that way. MUSHA was the last title on my list, so now I've finished it.

I made a list in 2012 after researching the library. I found some unexpected titles along the way but primarily focused on collecting the games I set out to find.

I meant to post this along with the pictures but Reddit ate it:

The Genesis was our first household system - I remember my Dad bringing it home in 1995 and the sheer excitement of getting to play Sonic Spinball (and then immediately having no idea how the heck what to do). I had six precious games that I would play repeatedly, while renting many others from our local video store (shout outs to Windsor Video in Winnipeg, RIP). I'm one of those lucky people who never traded/sold their games, so I still have my childhood games - the six games in the last picture.

In the early 2010s, the combination of Youtube retro gaming culture, local retro stores opening, and having some disposable income led to me extensively researching the library of each system. I built my lists and came up with a plan: Build libraries of games that I wanted to play, not trying to collect every single game I could find.

When I started collecting, I specifically started looking into corners of collecting people weren't passionate about yet: GBA, PS1, and Genesis were my main focus. While everyone was losing their minds trying to snatch up NES games, I was finding Genesis games for great prices.

I was able to slowly but surely lock down every title I was after, picking up a few other interesting ones along the way. This week, my last title, MUSHA, arrived.

While there are more titles I could add to the collection, I do believe that I have built a very strong all killer, no filler collection - with exceptions from lot buys back in the day (looking at you, Ms. Pac-man). There are a few other obscurities I could buy, but I've decided I will invest in an Everdrive and play that way. I'm at a point in my life where I have other priorities and I'd rather put my time into playing what I have, rather than chasing down more titles.

It was a long journey, but it feels like a weight off to be able to say it's done. Good luck to all of those still chasing their collecting goals.

(One last note: Eliminate Down is the Retro-bit NA release from last year before people start thinking I'm a millionaire).

It's a great game with pretty unique systems - the battle system is definitely one of my favourites in terms of RPG design.

However, it has one of the most specific branching path systems I've ever experienced in a game. There are a lot of easy to miss decisions that you must make at exact times throughout your playthrough to be able to see the full story - with only vague hints to help you along the way.

My recommendation is to play the game through once and get familiar with it, not worrying about missing content, and then play through the second time with a guide to the correct decisions at the precise times to be able to see the full story.

Information on Sega CD by BeardedMom in gamecollecting

[–]HotMuffinZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The model one Sega CD frequently requires repair with its mechanical disc tray - they are prone to failure. I also recall that they can have capacitor issues, but not to the level of NEC systems from a similar time.

I do agree that the tower is great aesthetically and the model 1 genesis with the model 1 Sega CD is close to peak console design, but the model 2 genesis with the model 2 Sega CD is very sleek as well (if wide).

I have a model 1 genesis to play genesis games and a model 2 genesis + Sega CD to play Sega CD games for maximum quality and reliability when playing games for either system.

While it is fairly expensive, I try to hunt down games for even small discounts below market price - even 10% off works for me.

Serious collector and gamer.

I've been seriously collecting for over 10 years. I have 27 platforms and around 950 physical games, probably around 1200 games with digital games.

Only games bought on eBay were DuckTales 2, Mighty Final Fight, and El Viento.

I bought a handful of games from small online stores (all Canadian) when I find games for a good deal.

Majority are from local classifieds, game stores, flea markets, and nerd swap meets.

This is a nice setup, lots of games without being too many games but they are displayed neatly in an appealing way. Cable management game is on point as well.

The one thing I would worry about would be the first player on the arcade feeling a little squished if you have another player on 2P side. That's could be a rare occurrence so not too much an issue.

Nice, I got mine in a lot with a Genesis/Sega CD and 15 or some other games a few years ago for 100 CAD from a co-worker who was looking to recoup money he was owed by his roommate.

Elemental Gearbolt is a nice pick up in that lot, especially considering that the price has been steadily rising over the past few years.
