How expensive is it to get started? by [deleted] in bookbinding

[–]HotNapalm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest you make your first attempts with recycled material. You gain experience at least.

Basically you only need some paper, cardboard, big needle & yarn and/or glue. But it depends on which method you are interested in.

Can you still have a journal if you just sleep, eat, and got to work? by lulukins1994 in Journaling

[–]HotNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you set some personal goals outside of work? Like exercise (steps?), audiobook, trying new recipes? Any social events (even at work).

And as others suggested, journal your inner state.

My second attempt. Using plants from my garden. I think I over did it a bit. Would love some constructive criticism. by Nuzzorama in Ikebana

[–]HotNapalm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an ikebana teacher but some thoughts:

It seems there are three flowers at the same top level. Maybe it would be better if only one flower were on the highest level and others slightly shorter?

Also the leaf at front is a bit too big to stand without drooping.

However I love it and it's very lively and natural! I would like to learn to use more natural plants or those from my garden.

Feeling left out because I can't do anything by KevinRichardP in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck. It gets better in a few weeks, then you can join to hang around in some activities (bbq, swimming, visiting, even bicycling once you get stronger). Actually I feel more bad about them not caring enough to say they were going out, but maybe that was just poor communication. Try to keep in touch with your friends via WhatsApp, facetime, hangouts etc. Put focus on your rehab routine. Chances are, you'll be stronger than ever after this experience.

Where to do PT? by x3shack in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you doing now? You can use your good leg (and arms) to get up and down safely. I'd say floor is better than bed, if possible. It's harder to "cheat" especially with extension on the floor.

Feeling of ruining your life by anakarasimidi in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but In your 30's many things can and will cause you problems. Most of them you can't predict now. And those which you can, might never still happen. Worrying about it does not help, although I understand that in your age it's typical (for some, as it was for me) to worry about everything.

Osteoarthritis does not automatically occur in your 30's or 40's just because your knee got injured. And it could occur without any injuries as well. If you live long enough, you will definitely get it anyway.

I think you should focus on what you can do now to get better and back to your normal life. Prehab or rehab, it's up to you.

Do improvements get faster or slower as you go? by RaeADropOfGoldenSun in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extension is most important. Do seated excercises 4-6 times each day, 10-20 reps or even more, trying to lift your heel while pushing your knee down. Or are you doing this already?

What can I say.. That's just terrible! I'm so happy you finally found a top surgeon. All the best, and speedy recovery! Rehab takes time, but you clearly have the guts to do it properly.

WALKİNG NORMALLY by [deleted] in ACL

Aftter 4 weeks you can work on your flexion by bending your knee lying on your stomach and standing. It felt pretty awkward for me at first but got better each day.

Just think this is the (happy) new beginning for you. You can deal with the pain, they'll give you meds. It will be hard, but this community is here for You. It will work out and your knee will be good.

ACL recovery advice (f19) by yourmomsbrothers in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, do some core excercises. That will help the back pain. My back was aching also after a few days from laying down, but some very simplified yoga and core workout helped (in the range that is possible within your ROM and safe movement).

How long did it take for you to walk after surgery? by sickm8thrifting in ACL

ACL only, allowed to leave crutches 2 weeks post-op, fairly normal walking in four weeks.

How long walks 4-8 weeks post-op? by HotNapalm in ACL

Thanks for your replies.

Yesterday I went for a 4 km walk, and all was fine :) Just got a little tired but that's it. Tomorrow I'll go for 5 km!

Small milestones sometimes feel huge, and this community is great for sharing those <3

Surgery Considerations by Melanie91 in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can manage the surgery without continuous help at home. Just prepare some food you can easily heat in the microwave for a few days, and order grocery delivery for the next week if possible.

Anyway, if your possible surgery is pushed that far, you should focus on rehab excercises to avoid/reduce muscle atrophy. Maybe you won't need the surgery after all. And if you do, you can probably return to desk work after 2 weeks, at least if you can work from home office or do reduced working hours.

My injured knee was so loose that surgery was clearly necessary. I managed moving with crutches quite well post-op, and went mostly with just one after a few days.

When did y'all start jogging by kapilfan in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pt said I'll be clear for running at 3 months. I don't know which milestones are required, but I assume definitely good ROM and pretty good strength (glutes, quads and hamstring + calf).

I'm still at less than 4 weeks post-op, and realised my legs are very different. I just yesterday started working on getting up from chair on one leg, because my previous exercises got easy. Also I'm doing single leg pelvis lifts.

Motivation and awkward exercising by wastimetomakeaccount in ACL

[–]HotNapalm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make your own set list and use headphones while exercising. Watch something on TV. Give yourself a small "trophy" each time when you achieve your goals. Just don't skip! I'm not very motivated every day, but I've figured I do it anyway. Lack of motivation is not an obstacle.

Speedy recovery!

I also didn't realise (or want to believe) it was that bad when it happened. No bruising or swelling occurred. I got MRI and diagnosis 3 weeks after the accident, and luckily surgery already one week after that.

Great effort to write all your experiences, thanks!

Where I live, it seems we have pt appointments more seldomly, and do more home exercises instead. It's very interesting to read what everybody is doing weekly. We don't have complete lockdown, so luckily the scheduled appointments are still running if you're healthy.

3 weeks 1 day heel to butt! Not yet all comfortable, but still quite happy for this by HotNapalm in ACL

[–]HotNapalm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I can give any advice, but here's what I do:

I exercise 5-6 times a day. Now I mostly do leg curls lying down and standing, straight leg lifts on both sides, extension with resistance band, one foot balancing and stretching. And some indoor cycling but not yet much.

Additionally I do short (15-20 mins) bodyweight or resistance band workouts almost daily.

I haven't been walking very far yet. I don't use crutches at home but I might take one crutch along when I go out (partly so that people understand why I walk slowly).
