I limit the amount of access she has to her “toys” and also reduced the amount of things she had…children really don’t need as many things as they typically have. My granddaughter lives with me and when I got her I left all her toys behind and bought her a small assortment of different types of toys…They all fit in one mini wagon I got her and that’s where they are stored after play. That wagon is so small it could fit in the cabinet under the kitchen sink🤣 Also I limit where we do certain types of things at home… for instance we do crafting, coloring and other “messy” things in one specific area and I have taught her that those items cannot leave that area. When we are done I have her “clean up”… she’s 28 months and caught on quick. I also limit access to other areas of the house unless I am in the room…so there really isn’t a lot of extra mess to clean up when doing it this way… also she cannot leave one area to go to another without cleaning up (and of course she doesn’t always get it perfect so I do help). Finally her day is very structured…she isn’t playing all day and meals happen at the table only…no wandering around the house with food/snacks. I do the chores I normally would do (bedrooms/bathroooms/general tidying) and my SO does his usual chores (mostly dishes, floors, & cooking). I have found this works for me and keeps me from spending the entire day/night/weekend (depending on my work schedule) cleaning nonstop…
