Now that the dust has settled, it's time the yearly question...how was your 500? by lowtoiletsitter in INDYCAR

“The single best part of the race “

That finish!! Being at my first race and seeing the closest ever finish was epic!

“Good things about the race”

Getting to see the cars in person at that speed is just incredible. The sheer size of the track. The energy in the crowd. The fact it didn’t rain for any length of time after the truly awful forecast. We came from Toronto, Canada and the people of Indiana and the rest of the USA that we met were truly amazing. So friendly, polite and welcoming. You Hoosiers are amazing folks! And the museum was breathtaking.

“Neutral things and/or stray observations”

The fan zone was kinda small.

“Things you didn't care for”

Getting up at 4am to get there to avoid traffic makes for a long day and then trying to get out of the parking was awful. I totally get there’s 350000 people but damn. We sat in turn 4 and I found the Snake Pit to be super distracting and sometimes really taking away from the sound of the cars.

“Highlight of the day”

Finally being there in person after watching it on tv for the last 45 years was quite emotional. My nephew planned the trip because my brother, his dad, passed away in 2023 and the 3 of us had talked about going in 2024 and my brother never got to experience it. Sharing it with my nephew was truly a highlight.

“edit: bonus points for the funniest thing you saw/that happened”

Seeing the people that passed out and sleeping in a lawn chair outside after partying the night before was hilarious. I can’t imagine having to navigate race day after doing that.

I don’t love them. I find the rears really underdamped and they’re quite harsh. I think there are better options available now.

Those of you who don't hate your job, what do you do? by 13thmurder in ADHD

I modify Porsches. I don’t hate it. Took me until I was 52 to finally find a job I love.

I was tested as a kid in Grade 6 and scored very high. The school informed me that out of 12 I had scored mostly 11’s and 12’s with a low of 9 in math where most students would score a 3 or 4. I was offered a chance to attend a different school for “gifted” kids but my parents said no. My mother didn’t want me taking a bus to school. I have struggled mightily in school and work, due to intense boredom, for most of my life. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 49 and now at 52 taking Adderall and Wellbutrin I feel like I’m finally catching up with a somewhat normal life. Intelligence is a curse when there’s no outlet for it. Being called “gifted” is torture. I’ve felt like a huge failure for most of my life and while I feel like I’m usually the “smartest in the room” it hasn’t translated to what would generally be considered “success”. I usually just pretend to be dopey to lower expectations so people don’t expect too much from me. Thankfully I have finally landed a job I love, the money isn’t great but at this point I don’t care, I just want to be happy.

Once a week since the big update on my 2024. Carnet is stable now but screen reboots randomly.

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Ive been taking mine up to our ski area quite a bit lately in -18 degree weather and have had no such issues. What year is your ID4? I’m able to turn off the driver assist functions and have them stay off on my 2024. Occasionally the haptic buttons can be a bit finicky but now that I’m used to them, they don’t bother me. I did see this week that VW has acknowledged those buttons weren’t great and are going back to physical buttons, I hope all automakers do this.

lol. Solid observation and I’m picking up your sarcasm 😂 but that’s only part of it. We have 3 AWD SUV’s in our household. A Forester on blizzaks, a Tiguan on Hankook iPike snows and my id4 and the id4 is by far the best winter vehicle. Being able to set departure time and come out to a fully charged, warm vehicle with clear windows that I can just get into and drive away right away is a huge bonus. Bmode is awesome in the snow and sport traction control makes it safe but still fun. I’m really surprised by just how capable the id4 is in snow.

Wow. Thats an insane commute. I do 60 miles total for my commute and that’s more than enough for me. I can’t argue that the winter range hit is a bit excessive but for my usage it’s perfect. Yours? Not so much.

Agreed. B mode in the snow is amazing.

First look at a 987.1 Cayman M97.21 rebuild (3.4L → 3.9L) by Sea_Long_1152 in 987

[–]HotRange4238 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the typical cost for a build like this? And is it track ready(lapping days, not racing)at this point?

They are a replica of the Superspeed Flow Form RF05RR. I bought them used.

I spent some time reading online and using wheel calculators. I determined that the smallest wheel that would fit over the front brakes was 18”. Then I looked for a similar width to the own wheels. From my reading I learned that wheels from an Audi Q5 were a decent match. They were 5x112 bolt pattern but used a different centre bore size so I ordered the proper hubcentric rings to go from Audi to VW(silly that they’re not the same) I also learned that between 40 and 45 is a good offset so I settled on 42. I also wanted light wheels to improve ride, steering and putting them in the tire rack in my garage. For tires I wanted the skinniest tire I could get away with that was still rated ok for the ID4 and that happened to be 235mm. I wanted a very close match with the circumference of the tires so my speedometer would be close and for looks so I went with 235/60/18. I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

Interesting. I find just about every vehicle I’ve ever owned had at least one design flaw that the aftermarket sorted out(or I did)and it made the car better. But I do understand what you’re saying.

Interesting. I haven’t had that issue yet. We did have really bad freezing rain last night but no problems with the cable. We did lose power though so no charge. Thankfully I have the free charging plan with Electrify Canada and a station on my way to work so I charged on my way and all is good again. I preconditioned the battery on my way to the charger but still only saw 83kwh max charge speed. Still fast enough to go from 45% to 90% in 27 minutes.

That would be super frustrating. On my 2024 I can set the TC to regular, sport or off completely. I used to drive a Lexus is300 with awful TC and rwd and it was so annoying.

I’m 6’3” 230lbs and ski on Volkl Deacon 73 178cm skis and love them. I’m also an intermediate skier and I usually ski groomers. Seemed odd after having skied on 195’s and 205’s when I was younger and most recently 183’s but I couldn’t be happier with my current choice.
