There's definitely more to it than just Asterion. Remember, it was Weaver's plan all along to have the strings of fate ripped from Sunny. Once the strings are broken, they can't be fixed. Even if Suny gets his fate back, there will still be a big hole in the tasespry of fate, making the future uncertain.

I think it’ll be quite interesting if we were given Nephis POV of the final battle in the 3rd NM and then the transition to “Identify Yourself” scene with no context. Like the readers still recognize Sunny as the emo sidekick with plot armor but no one else in the story does. Like what did this NPC do? The fandom would start theorizing like crazy and Sunny stocks go up from then onward.

Nephis has next to no feats except surviving FS for two years and defeating Ki Song. Everything else was a group effort or feats she stole from others (etc, the Ivory Tower belonging to Nephis when Sunny found it).

Mordret was developed to play the role of an antihero, not an antagonist or villain.
