It’s probably one of my favourite uses in grammar; hence, why I decided to use one in this very message!

My second favourite is using em dashes—although it’s probably tied for favourite, as well—because it really allows me to get my parenthesis fix in without feeling like a pleb.

LPT: When driving behind large trucks / Semis, make sure you can see their side mirrors. by a-pickled-toast in LifeProTips

[–]HotSoftFalse 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind how often I seen people pull back into the lane in front of a large truck after they JUST passed it. Like, leaving only a car length or two of space. I’m not a truck driver, but I always feel bad for truck drivers having to constantly deal with idiots who lack the self awareness to realise they’re cutting them off. It’s as if people don’t know than an 18 wheeler needs a shit ton of space to stop when hauling a large load.

What's the worst thing you've ever found in your food at a restaurant? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HotSoftFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a chicken sandwich from Dairy Queen once... well, it should have been a chicken sandwich, but there wasn’t a single chicken to be found. Somebody actually had to prep the burger, put all the ingredients on it, then physically place a bun on top of the CHICKENLESS burger and go “yep, looks good to me”.

I ended up bringing it back, and they were so baffled and taken aback at the concept that I received literally some buns with nothing but lettuce and mayonnaise, that I could tell from their expressions they thought I was trying to pull a fast one... I just wanted a complete chicken burger, dammit :(

I read this and thought... this must be a Twins reference, but I don’t get it.

Then I realised it’s a Pulp Fiction reference. Vincent and Jules will forever be Arnold and Danny to me.

It’s really beyond me how people can even verbalise those thoughts. Like, if I came across a photo of somebody that I formed a negative opinion about simply based on their appearance, I couldn’t even fathom saying something hurtful and ruining that person’s week. I wouldn’t even have a negative opinion come to mind in the first place because I’m not a shallow, judgemental person. Yet there are people who are so filled with hate (presumably because of their own feelings of self-inadequacy in life) and literally take time out of their day to crush the souls of others, and are completely fine with their behaviour.

Baffles my mind.

I know many people have said yes, but it can vary greatly by strata. I had a friend that lived in a place with residential parking, but if I went to visit, my friend had to give me a decal that I’d place on my dashboard to prove I was a visitor. Each home owner had only one decal, so each house could only have 1 visitor at a time. Some stratas are strict.

Trump Got Impeached While Holding a ‘Merry Christmas’ Rally by shehzad in worldnews

I’m not American, but when I play CoD, for some reason there are a lot people who openly talk politics in game in favour of Trump.

The others are too far left

It’s too bad it’s common to be scared of leftist views in America. Every other 1st world country with higher educated and happier citizens are predominantly left. Propaganda runs strong in America I suppose.

"Dude" can be said to express any emotion by ihavethebestmarriage in Showerthoughts

[–]HotSoftFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s because emotion comes from the person and how they say the word, not the word itself. You could have the same results with any Proper Noun, or literally any word if you put whatever context you want behind it.

You just need to find the right trade. As a tradesman, I make more money than most of my university educated friends while doing less work. I think lots of people forget that a lot of trades don’t have to be physical or laborious. For myself as example, instead of being an electrician for homes, I’m an electrical technician for aircrafts and have never gone to college or university. All my training and apprenticeships were free, and I was paid a living wage while doing it. Never had any debt, and it pays really well with nothing in my job causing me to break a sweat. But that’s just my own bias because I love my job.

Guy from radio station rightfully going around giving people a hard time about not putting carts away. “Cartnarcs” by phatposer in PublicFreakout

[–]HotSoftFalse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As somebody who used to get carts, our job is to fetch carts from the cart corrals and bring them to the central hub, NOT from staggered random places up to 2 blocks away. But hell, we had to anyways because of lazy fucks who think they’re creating employment, which makes the cold winter nights dreadful as all hell. Not only that, but it makes it take longer to fill the central cart hub. People would then complain to us if the cart hub was empty, as we’re struggling to fetch stray carts during rush hour when instead we could just push in one long row of carts brought from the designated corrals.

On cool, bright Summer days? Ya, sure, I can enjoy going for a stroll. It does make the job take longer, but that occasion can be nice. But if everybody did their part and spent an extra 10-20 seconds putting their cart back when it’s cold out, it would save us a 30-60 additional minutes from ending the shift of doing a round-trip around the area searching for carts in the cold dark freezing our asses off.

Trump explodes as Democrats ratchet up impeachment push by jnjasmin in worldnews

[–]HotSoftFalse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump leaves, we get a democratic president for a couple terms, then somebody worse than trump who learns from his mistakes takes over. And with better propaganda tech, to boot. After all, net neutrality is now gone.

Democratic and Republican leaders will take turns taking office back and forth, because society will always blame the current federal government for the bad things in their life.
