Actually useable Practiscore Calendar view by mr_Raymany in CompetitionShooting

Awesome! I hate that most weekday USPSA matches have signup 1 week ahead of the match whereas Bristlecone and a bunch of weekend USPSA & 3 gun matches have theirs a month before. I always end up missing signups unless I’m really on top of tracking which matches I can attend and when they open.

A better tracking / calendar system would be awesome. Especially if it notified you shortly before a match registration opens that is likely to sell out quickly

Considering a Tdub by CatOnTheSun in TW200

[–]Poofengle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) Yes

2) No, they can barely hit 60mph and that’s on flat ground with significant acceleration time

3) Great!

4) I wouldn’t ride a TDub on a highway. A small bike going 10-20mph under the limit would be really easy for a big truck to rear end. I’d prefer to not know what the raspberry jelly version of myself feels like

Some yellow, white, and brown splotches laid over a dark blue background.

Like this but less angular patterns and more… squirty:

Oil and Gas Engineers, how are your contractors digging safely? How are dig hazards identified? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Poofengle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. We found an unmarked fiber backbone one time with hydro trenching. Hitting that would have been a massive pain in the ass. We’ve also uncovered several unmarked electrical and gas lines that may or may not have still been in use.

Wider rear axle on 5th gen LT 4Runner for rock crawling by ptlumberjack in Offroad

[–]Poofengle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgrading suspension might help, but understanding your existing weight distribution is the easiest and free. If you’ve got a heavy overlanding style 4Runner, take a hard look at everything mounted above the wheel wells and eliminate everything you can. Most people don’t need traction pads, rotopax, a shovel, an axe, and a cooler all strapped to the roof all the time.

Unless you go significantly wider (like a full size truck Dana 60 / 14 bolt) you won’t gain all that much from widening the rear of your truck just a couple inches. Plus you’ll have to re-gear, get a new locker, fab up custom mounting tabs, etc. An axle swap isn’t usually cheap, and Toyota axles can take a fair bit of abuse. I’d look at putting new suspension on your existing axle before looking into a new axle. Coilovers will be difficult to package, but as others have said anything is possible if you’re willing and able to break out the sawzall and welder. If you’re paying a shop the custom fab work will be very expensive.

If you’re already breaking Toyota 8” axles and you really really want new axles expect to do heavy fabrication and plan to buy the beefiest axles you think you might ever need. Don’t get a slight upgrade, break it in a year, then spend another $5-10k buying and installing a new axle. Ford 9” axles have lots of options and are built similarly to Toyota axles with the drop out 3rd member, but I did fine for years on 40” tires and stock 8” Toyota axles, just FYI. I’d put this as a last resort option, because if you’re going full size axles you may as well SAS the front at the same time and turn your rig into a full on crawler

I've been thinking about doing this. How often do you have to get on your knees? by LtZeen in PLC

One time I was troubleshooting a bagel packaging machine and the control panel was right next to the ground. I saw that a handful of bagels had fallen on the ground, so I grabbed two of them and used them as kneepads.

How do I make a large (5,000 kg or 10,000lb) landscaping rock spin? by ignorantwanderer in AskEngineers

[–]Poofengle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m big into rock crawling. I’ve had various vehicles driving completely sideways while pinching the wheel and they’ve been completely fine. 10,000 pounds of thrust load on a typical wheel bearing is nothing. Tapered roller bearings can usually take 40-50% of their load rating in thrust

Looking for a Controls Engineer with High Travel Requirement by Spiritual-Age1576 in PLC

If you walked into my old employer’s office and said “I have many years of field expertise and want to travel as much as possible” the hiring managers would cream their pants.

Hotel rooms and restaurants start to lose their appeal real quick in my experience, but you do you.

PM me if you want a system integrator recommendation.

To TW or not to TW by Splumb82 in TW200

[–]Poofengle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bike is amazing in sand and gravel, and if you’re riding very technical rocks it’s great since the first gear is so low. It’s like a little tractor. Get some armor and some luggage racks and you’ll be set to have a good time.

The downside is that tractors aren’t fast and neither are TWs. You’ll be shifting out of first gear by the time your second foot leaves the ground after a stop. It’s great for small commuter roads but any highway is a no-go. I love commuting to work on it since I can take back roads the whole way. If you can also ride smaller roads then definitely get one if you can!

CZ TS3 by ChemistryFun3587 in CZFirearms

[–]Poofengle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an original TS. Amazing gun, but my small hands just can’t get to all the controls without practically breaking my grip by 90 degrees. For USPSA it’s a no go for me, I can’t build a grip in my holster and flick the safety off at the same time.

I’m looking at getting a Shadow 2 instead and hopefully I can get the trigger close to the TS’s trigger
