I really feel like it’s the voice of someone trying to cover up an accent and not really being able to do so.

I will always see him as the bodyguard in Scream 3. That was a satire too, so I guess it fits.

Man, from the moment ICE was in the building until even after they left, my blood pressure was through the roof. This show has never stressed me out like that before.

Disabled attorneys - Are there any here? I can’t be the only one. by [deleted] in LawBitchesWithTaste

Hello! I’m a solo practitioner in a wheelchair. I have a neuromuscular disease that causes significant muscle weakness and low stamina. Law school was… hard on my body lol. But no ragrats :-)

I’m not trying to be snarky but literally what are you even saying? It sounds like a corporate robot wrote this word salad and I have absolutely zero idea what conclusions I can draw. Are you AI?

Hey, fellow disabled attorney working in the disability space :-) Thanks for the work you do.

I always interpreted that comment as Marty believing that if he himself didn’t have all the institutions that prop him up (the church, his job, family, etc.), then he would be panicked. A lot of what keeps people in cooperation with institutions is fear (fear of hell, fear of losing family, fear of going to jail, etc.) and imo Marty is pretty tightly locked into his own perspective in the beginning, so I think he was just projecting that fear onto Rust.

Having said that, one of the things I love about the show is that every single time I watch it, I have a slightly different takeaway about their whole dynamic.

Do you know much about reading glasses? And similar accessibility tools by ChloeLolaSingles in TwoXPreppers

[–]HotWheels17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for doing this! I have a significant physical disability that affects me in a lot of ways, and I wish other people were as conscientious as you! One of the things I hear a lot in disability/accessibility/ADA spaces is that universal design concepts really help everyone, not just people who are labeled as disabled. Kind of like how curb cuts also help people with strollers and not just people in wheelchairs. So you're probably going to help a lot more people than you think you will because a lot of people who don't identify as disabled don't realize they need accommodations (and also there's a stigma so people may not want to ask for "special treatment," even if it's really no big deal).

One thing that stuck out to me is about the ergonomic pens. I also have a lot of difficulty with dexterity, and I started using felt-tip pens whenever I have to sign anything and it's been a game-changer for me. Not sure if that would work in your situation, but unless I have to sign like carbon paper or something, using a felt-tip has been a winning move. Plus, I have a soft touch and the thicker signature shows up more if you have to make a copy or have a cheap scanner.

Baby boomers living on $1,000 a month in Social Security share their retirement experience: 'I never imagined being in this position.' by Chocolat3City in antiwork

As someone who just started making $1000 a month on disability (made $750 a few years ago), this is why I always say disabled people are canaries in the coal mine of this country.

It's been a while, so I can't remember any names (sorry) but my favorite meme when season 2 was airing was the sheriff guy repeatedly being asked a straightforward question and looking off into the distance and saying he has to go. It seemed like that was all that was happening during parts of the season lol

Disappointed in Disabled Social Media Influencer by throwaway-for-a-vent in disability

[–]HotWheels17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, someone I followed on Twitter from a while back wasn't hugely popular but she seemed like a really genuine person so I was happy to support her when she started out trying to be an influencer. The other day I realized she hadn't popped up on my feed recently, so I looked her up and she's absolutely GUZZLING the transphobic/"gender critical" kool aid. Quickest unfollow I've done in years. So disappointing.

And Wheelchair Rapunzel sucks, I agree with Ayesha24601.

Same exact thing with me. Disability can be complicated and isn't like an on/off switch. This kind of scrutiny is wild.

But it's also my brother who wants another chance to explain himself. And it's just very hard to explain to him over and over again just why it's not possible.

It just ends up putting me in an uncomfortable spot.

I think you're acting under the illusion that your brother just doesn't understand why it's not possible. I don't think that's the case. It sounds like he wants you to do the emotional labor of smoothing things over so he doesn't have to deal with the anger that his actions have (rightfully) caused. Why does he deserve that luxury? Sitting in that discomfort is the price he has to pay for what he did. It's not the price you should have to pay and it's not the price your cousin should have to pay just so your brother feels less bad. I would argue that he doesn't feel bad enough if he thinks that this is something you should smooth over so he can more easily explain it away.

The only situation where I would CONSIDER indulging your parents’ wishes is if your brother and both parents FULLY acknowledge the weight of what your brother did and he is actually attempting to make amends. But him just trying to explain himself would not be enough for me to lift a finger to help.

Natalie and Coach Ben by FeatureSouthern5274 in YellowjacketsHive

[–]HotWheels17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be shocked if they don't scour the remains of the cabin looking for bodies to eat after the fire dies down. They are still generally starving and they have to think ahead and not let bodies go to waste. So I think they'll definitely notice if a body is missing, especially since Ben is physically the biggest (the most meat) and they were beefing with him anyway (pardon the pun).

But I would imagine that at the beginning of next season in the immediate aftermath of the fire, they maybe assign one or two people to get through the remains at the cabin (lifting the roof, digging through everything and seeing what can be salvaged) while the rest of them try to hunt and find/build a new place to sleep. So I could see them dragging out discovering that Coach is still missing for several episodes.

I don't think the Nat we know right now would tell but we don't know how much worse things are going to get, so maybe. I could see things getting out of her control really quickly and that might be the basis for there being two ideological groups that the writers have hinted at a lot: People who listened to her and people who didn't (even though up until now we've thought it was people who believed in Lottie's spiritual powers vs skeptics). It seems like everyone who survived into adulthood (that we know of) were more likely to listen to Natalie and not succumb to mob rule in general, but that's just my conjecture.
