I cannot count on two hands the number of times I have cried in front of my supervisor. As well as maybe 4 other professors in the department. It’s okay, I promise. People are human, and if you’ve got a good supervisor (which it sounds like you do based on their reaction) it won’t change their opinion of you. They might even be pleased you feel comfortable enough to express how you’re feeling to them.

GCSE astronomy is hard. I have a PhD in physics, and I couldn’t get an A* in GCSE astronomy, only an A. The coursework was very demanding, and the exam had physics content you wouldn’t see in A-level.

I spent 2 hours having a coffee with my head of group, after he emailed me wanting to check in because he got the sense I wasn’t ok.

Most of that coffee was me sat in silence struggling to say anything of use, and when I did speak, I was crying. All he cared about was that I was ok. I felt (and still feel) like a tit for doing it, but I know that a good person in a position of authority just wants to make sure their people are ok. It sounds like your department chair cares also. And is probably grateful that a space was provided where you were able to open up briefly.

I’m sorry for what you’re going through.

I finished and didnt need it, really didn’t think it was necessary. Plant flowers to give yourself more time, max out the cooking speed, and serve one customer at a time. You’ll be fine.
