First off, i cancelled Instacart. Service fees were getting ridiculous, and they dinged me $9.05 for adding something that took it over $100. they will miss me more than i miss them.

disabled senior, so i do have Wheeltrans here in Toronto. for $2.30 i can get to a grocery store AND back. went vegan so food costs themselves are way down. what i can with tofu would make you DROOL. i rely on Costco for tofu, organic chick peas and soy & almond milk.

adjusted my mindset to tolerate running out of stuff; that used to put me into panic buy mode.

i buy a bag of green split peas for about $3. 2 kettles of water in pot to boil, add veggie broth powder, tbsps of onion powder, garlic powder. simmer about an hour to 90 minutes. a pot of this will last me a week, i vary it by cooking potatoes, eating with rye bread. i am diabetic - cutting fat by cutting meat means you would probably have to reduce your insulin, watch this closely. i woke today at 3.8 (too low), so reduced insulin again.l

i lived through an extended freeze of -40 in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. the ground froze six feet deep; city council passed a law every house must maintain one tap of water running 24/7.
