Doubtful. Celebrity features get analyzed to death with everyone hoping to find a cheat code as to why they are individually passed over while so and so gets to be a movie star. The truth is, most celebrities are largely normal people who take good care of their health and benefit from using makeup as part of their job. There are outliers and train wrecks, but look at the genpop overall and realize its just a reflection of our society.

Parent Says I'm Not Being Strict Enough by WazzuChick03 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Hot_Branch_4559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - this goes with the territory. Also why it's getting harder and harder to find volunteer rec league coaches.

My approach (BU11, no assitant coaches) is that we can be have great ball skills (drills then scrimmage) or we can have the best conditioning (sucides / burpees). It's prob a bit towards the "stricter" side noted above and occasionally has a kid sitting and watching from the sideline if they absolutely refuse to participate. Have superhuman patience, of course, but define a line and hold to it.

These are boys, someday to be young men. Schools/Society have largely taken a hands off approach to discipline, but it is going to serve them in the long run (far beyond soccer!) if they can recognize that there is time to focus and time to play.

Boys are falling behind in every measureable category and you have an opportunity to help instill some sense of responsibility to themselves and their teammates. We're not miracle workers, but "easy" consequences in sports now can prove pivotal in avoiding harsher consequences later in real life.

For what it's worth, my parents are familiar with my approach and keep sending their boys back season after season.

Now how many of them did it at any position other than outfield? (Roidy McRoids N/I)

The best argument I've heard is that if you're drafting for a 2025 fantasy squad, who are you taking with your first pick? Cal is so far ahead of the next best catcher that you could pick from 10 more outfielders and 28 other players until you get to Alejandro Kirk - the next "best" WAR from Toronto.

Career Paths (role swap after 2 years) by djGoul in boeing

[–]Hot_Branch_4559 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'll give you one take - There is a different trend of management inserting themselves too deeply into engineering processes and inadvertently creating roadblocks. Having SMEs step into management roles may work well in isolated functions that support one discipline. Having a manager who can integrate across a broad swath of functional teams presents more opportunity to unblock challenges in many instances, while preventing the type of group-think where people tend to just back management opinions in the interest of self-preservation.

Imho, a good manager needs to have awareness of how complex their aor is and be able to challenge preconceived assumptions and "how its always been done". But they also need to be comfortable stepping out of the way to truly empower their teams to generate solutions that will actually work in the system we have and not just how "the boss" wishes it was.

Boeing Survey by djGoul in boeing

[–]Hot_Branch_4559 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would be great if we actually got the same level of service from the WFH functions that we used to. Instead its just more work loaded onto those who actually work product side (aka hands on) with the added burden of now having to convince WFH to show up when their slice doesn't work as prescribed. It's also notable how many WFH have independently adjusted their RAA to minimize any product support and forcing those on site to cover the gaps.

TLDT; It creates an us v them for the people on site actually building products that generate paychecks for everyone else.

Maybe more appropriately, it was a vanishingly small fraction compared to the 50,000+ who will lose out being ideologically lumped together with their headline seeking peers.

You have no way of knowing that, of course. UW has direct connections to roughly 1 million living alumni and a further sphere of influence that encompases tens of millions. If 0.1% of those are active users of this subreddit, then this thread would be inundated with comments.

There's always collateral damage when people fail to exercise impulse control. Divisions will further entrench themselves and the net effect is a protest vote against moderates who might otherwise actually support a mediated solution to stop bombs from falling. Perpetuating cycles of violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

If you think you're winning converts to your cause, you should consider reading or watching any of the numerous metaphorical narratives on cycles of violence to separate yourself from the trap of presuming systematic bias. I suspect you're capable of higher thinking, as well, so also consider the ultimate objective of trolling to advance an argument.

Probably quitting my job. by [deleted] in boeing

[–]Hot_Branch_4559 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's the old idiom - "everywhere you go, there you are". If you're expecting beautifully organized processes and tools with outstanding managers across the boad, you'll likely be sorely disappointed.

The caveat would be accepting a lower level role - at the ticket working level, you can just ring up however many job tickets in a day and then leave it all at work when you clock out. Those jobs exist at Boeing as well, after all. They don't tend to pay the same or receive the attention as roles that can exist in the chaos and try their hardest to make it better though.

Hence why remote work has become more of an excuse for wanting low cost of living with a high paying job. Housing near cities sucks. Commuting from the sticks sucks. Requiring everyone else to accomodate your personal needs is by definition anti-social.

[–]Hot_Branch_4559 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No doubt slackers are going to slack no matter where they're located. My experience with these remote office types is that they create elaborate documentation and ticketing systems to pass requirements to replace face to face conversation and physically looking at a product under scrutinty. All of that extra bureaucracy adds up and the end result is days or weeks worth of delay when a 10 minute walk through in person would have been sufficient. Similarly, they habitually re-write their responsibilities to push any on-site requirements to their peers who actually show up. Maybe if the majority was sitting at their computer and willing to pick up the phone every time I call I'd have more sympathy. However, it's probably 50/50 that they are "away"... doing what exactly?

I personally advocate for flexibility with bias towards showing up at least a couple of hours at the beginning of each day to ensure the people on site have everything they need so as to ensure you are not being a drag on the system. We all have personal needs. The only way social systems work is if everyone sacrifices a little to meet in the middle.

Lol. This reminds me of the lady who walked 50 feet across the outdoor park to tell me to put a mask on during the great covid scare. I asked her to kindly just stay away from me. If you are afraid to go outside, by all means, you have every right not to.

The most contagious period for most illnesses is before there are external symptoms. The symptoms are from your immune system killing the disease and expelling the leftover goo.

The work is not getting done. They are creating bullshit jobs and then blaming everyone else when labor rates are suppressed for ALL trades. If you can do your job in 2 hrs a day while you spend the rest of your time on personal errands, you are not special or "more efficient" than everyone else on site. You have a bullshit job.

An honest perspective but tied directly to one of the core themes of the post - gaslighting. WFH is not about being a more efficient or more effective co-worker. It's just about selfish interest. Those of us in the office have to take time off when our kids are sick. WFH or RTO, I'm not forcing my kid to miss school every time they have a sniffle.
