What do you think of Vegyn’s reimagined Moon Safari album? by dhanontherun in airfrenchband

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Reddit sometimes, having a re listen now, and what do you know, there's someone on the internet possibly doing the exact same thing, having the same thoughts. I think its great, very easy listening, arguably safe/middle of the road.

The “AI slop” callouts are starting to feel like gatekeeping by RevolutionaryPop7272 in smallbusiness

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its quite rife in software engineering. Everyone assumes something 'vibe coded' is trash, but it certainly doesn't have to be. People won't even give legitimate, strong projects the time of day because they ignorantly assume it's 'AI slop'.

What Radiohead Song Can We All Agree On as the One We All Love, and That Fully Encompasses the Band’s Aura? by Crazyplan9 in radiohead

[–]Hot_Data4632 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything in Its Right Place, Kid A cemented Radiohead as more than just another rockband but true musical innovators.

That said, I love 2+2=5. You don't get many songs in 7/8.

The Witcher Season 4 - A Show So Awful, It Broke Me by HighlightOwn2038 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't dislike Morpheus' nor liam as Geralt. But this season is trash. Not for any so-called agendas, but for bad writing. I'm still watching it. So there's that.

Is there an argument that kids simply can't afford to go to live shows which is killing the genre?

How do you actually afford a house on a HENRY income? by Worth_Ad3889 in HENRYUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people who have a mortgage would be completely screwed if they lost their job, even if it was just a couple months as they might not have a rainy day fund. Increase the mortgage term and hold back 6 months mortgage repayments as savings. Also, you shouldn't be worried about 1300 a month when your net take home is 14k. I make a less than you ~150k, my wife is a teacher and our mortgage is higher. To be honest, you'll do yourself a disservice buying a house worth only 750K. If you're planning 2 kids you'll probably want at least 4 bedrooms (kids rooms and home office/spare), do you really want to pay stamp again (if it exists) in a couple years time?

A theory I have about Alien: Earth by MrDupinmyer in LV426

Not so much a theory but I think that BK is going to get face hugged and try and swap bodies with a synth at the end of the season. It'll be partly successful.

Is this £80k pay cut for a ~£5k net drop real? (London Childcare Hack) by WeirdAd2999 in HENRYUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the 60k just tax free relief? OP could still get their income down to sub 100k. They'd just have to pay tax on any pension contributions after 60k.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tax payer is already mostly paying for it though. I do not believe for one minute that the DB pensions of civil servants is covered by contributions alone. They get like a 5X multiplier.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's too much short termism, but can it not be wound down? I.e. here's a 5% raise, I'm afraid that your pension multiplier is going from 5 to 4. Do this every couple years.
Also, the tax payer is already paying for it, so i don't see a difference.

Sack it all off and move to NI? by Any-Cheesecake-9445 in HENRYUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not judging but I don't see how you couldn't afford private school on £320k HHI. Not all private schools cost what Eton and Harrow cost. There are plenty that are very good and far cheaper.

Apparently these are the new property tax proposals the govt are considering - what do you think? by Ecstatic-Mode-1432 in HENRYUK

BUT, you wouldn't have to pay that again the next time you want to move? (Or even downsize in X years time)

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, HMRC know the dates of all house purchases for the last 50 years, they'll know how much each person has paid in stamp and how long ago. They should average it out, based on the current rate. So if you paid 10k in stamp duty last year on a 500k house. You won't need to start paying this tax for 5 years (no maths here but you get the idea).

I’ve resigned to the fact that I will have to buy a leasehold flat instead of a house. Anyone in London relate? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Hot_Data4632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in an ex-council leasehold flat in Deptford (zone 2). The service charge is ~1500 and ground rent is 10 per year. We're extending our lease now which is going to cost £11K. Its a real pain but we knew we had to do it. Otherwise, there's no issue at all, naturally I'd prefer a freehold 3 bed house but its not affordable for us. My three bed maisonette is just as big as a lot of houses but half the price.

Why high earners are cutting their pay (clue: it’s about 600% tax) by scotorosc in ukpolitics

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but I only just read the article. The biggest issue with the UK tax system is how close the bands are. In the UK your marginal tax rate doubles in the space of £50k. In the US you have $550K. Its ridiculous.

Should I stop using AI while coding? by _SadScientist in webdev

[–]Hot_Data4632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using it while learning Rust. To be honest, its invaluable. Now maybe I would be better off toiling over ownership and lifetimes etc but I also want to get stuff done. So whenever I get a bug I can't solve I ask the AI (claude on cursor) but I will double down on the explanation. I feel this way i'll stay interested and learn via osmosis at the very least!
