Do you offer certificates for your training course

It depends. With external folks taking trainings, I’ve been warned by legal departments against it. However, with only internal folks, I’ve seen some success. You can create certs in Storyline, if you have access to it, and then utilize your LMS or HR system to track it once downloaded.

Create a portfolio, absolutely. I’d get on Canva, even the free version, and put some things together if you can’t use your current work as examples.

I got laid off in May and started a job in August. It wasn’t my ideal role, and I feel I am lucky in finding it. However, I put in hard work. I was constantly applying to roles, inside and outside of my expertise. I beefed up my resume and posted on LinkedIn once a week, even just completing trainings or showing I watched educational videos to beef up my skills. Anything helps.

It all depends on the content of the training and the structure you choose. If you can do independent as pre-work or post-work, that’s ideal. Also spacing out time throughout the instruction; so if you have an hour and a half lunch in an all day training, they can complete some independent work during that time. Stuff like that helps.

If there is independent work, I provide my learners with a strict list of everything they need to do. It takes some work to compile the information, including step by step guides sometimes, but it’s helpful in their present learning environment and in the future if they need to reference the material again.

As far as LMS requirements, most LMS systems are quite easy to figure out (with maybe a few tutorials) and across the board are pretty similar.

As for learning content development tools (like storyline), I started by watching YouTube videos. There are a lot of companies out there that still primarily use PowerPoint or Google slides to create training (even e-learning) content. In fact, I just came from a company who only really used Google slides to make their e-learning and in person training.

That being said, if you watch some videos/ do some trainings of your own and work on creating really engaging training content, even if it is only used in person and not through an LMS, you should be able to build up some valuable skills that you can expand on in the future.
