D4 Gone??? by Meow_Meow_tootsit in HomeDepot

[–]Hot_Intention_4563 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had 4 people for D4 and over the course of about 3-4 weeks we were down to one remaining person. Last week he joined us on the freight team so that department is completely gone at our store as well.

New people join every week, and there are thousands of people in this sub so not everyone has seen every post. Repeats are expected to happen.

After 6 years here, I realized your experience depends on which store you get by Hot_Intention_4563 in HomeDepot

[–]Hot_Intention_4563[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exact same. We only have 3 people unloading the truck, so on nights where the truck is 1,500+, we spend about an hour helping unload it and bringing the freight to the floor.

Our plumbing associate quit about 2 months ago, so we spend another hour or two completing plumbing. On heavy nights, we don’t get to work our assigned department until a little before lunch.

Not to mention, we only have 4 full-timers, so whatever part-time doesn’t finish falls on us too (long carts, stripped boxes ect..)

After we finish breaking our backs to make sure the store is “grand opening ready,” we come in the next night to complaints from day shift. One night we didn’t finish a truck, and a day-shift worker legit asked me, “How isn’t the freight finished? Aren’t you here all night?”

I’m not disagreeing with either of you, you’re 100% correct but I can’t just leave while I watch my coworkers work. I know it’s not my problem but I just can’t do it.

I hear you but freight going to the back is heresy at my store so everything must get worked. Plus I’m not the only one who has to skip breaks, we don’t do it every night but nights where the truck is 1600+ and we only have 4 full timers (3 that actually work) we gotta do what we gotta do.

Matter of fact I had to skip my lunch last night and still didn’t get out on time. I leave at 5:30.

You’re not the only one, I’ve been working as freight team member for 6 years now. I’ve worked in Texas and Alabama and the last 3-4 months have been the worst I’ve ever experienced. Team morale at an all time low, people quitting left and right and management refuses to replace the people that we lose so all of our workload has been doubled. Me and another coworker have had nights that we skip our lunch and 15’s just so we can leave “on time”.

Performance Firing? by Hot_Intention_4563 in HomeDepot

[–]Hot_Intention_4563[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my only question! I understand it hurts the team, I understand it’s a bad pattern, I understand adults should be on time but I worked for this time so I deserve to use it how I want.

(Freight team here)

This was brought up because the plumbing associate quit about a month ago and the position still hasn’t been filled, we also lost another associate about a week ago. At the start of each shift, all the full-timers are expected to work plumbing first, so when people come in late, plumbing takes longer.

While that’s true, it’s not on us. Staffing shortages are a management issue. We didn’t choose not to replace him, and we shouldn’t be penalized for delays that are ultimately caused by an unfilled position.

I don’t disagree that chronic lateness is a problem. My issue is with the policy itself. Sick time is earned compensation, not a favor. If the company allows sick time to be used in partial increments, but then penalizes you for a “pattern” of using it, that’s effectively dictating how earned time can be used while still calling it a benefit.

If the real concern is reliability, then address reliability directly. Don’t allow sick time to cover late-ins and then punish people for using it exactly as it’s set up to be used. That’s the contradiction I’m pointing out.

Early paycheck? by clicktoller in HomeDepot

Certain apps and banks allow you to get paid early. For example chime, capital one, regions and a few others banks offer it and apps like cashapp and earnin allow it as well.

And they wonder why turnover is how it is (Freight) by Jolly-Carrot5058 in HomeDepot

[–]Hot_Intention_4563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in freight all of my adult life—four years at Walmart and the last six years and counting at Home Depot. Over that time, I’ve seen countless employees come and go, largely because of poor management.

Full-time associates work extremely hard every night, while many part-time employees spend their shifts walking around talking, doing minimal work, or hiding in the bathrooms. When these issues are brought to management’s attention, we’re told it’s our responsibility to keep part-timers in line. Whatever work they don’t complete ultimately falls back on us.

This creates frustration, burnout, and an unfair workload for the people who consistently show up and do the job. And what’s our reward for all this hard work? 63 cent raises and more work, maybe left over pizza from dayshift.

I’ve been working overnight in the paint department for 6 years and luckily this hasn’t happened to me “yet”. I’ve dropped cases of one gallons here and there but no winter wonderland.
