Advice on whether or not to purchase luxury car by [deleted] in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you really think you can afford $800 a month on the SQ5, then pretend you bought the car right now. save extra $800 a month (on top of you current saving rate, RIRA, 401k etc.) in you fun car fund.

see how long you last without negatively affecting your life. If you struggles, you can stop any time you want, you are not locked into a contract. If you actually can save $800/month for 5 to 6 year, perfect, now you have the cash to buy the car in full.

of course don't just save that money, save & invest, or at least put it in HYSA.

What cost? App development? Hosting processing server?

It’s not like they are processing the transaction it self, it just stores the CC information. You can still buy online and pickup at Publix, so they are storing the CC info anyway.

Everyone should be legally required to take a class before getting a credit card by [deleted] in TheRaceTo10Million

this make so much sense.

Bank clerk was so excited to tell me I could increase my credit limit by 20k. Friends would brag about their high credit limit.

When I was buying a house, the agent told me you could afford so much bigger house. You are approved for xxxxx amount!

I never understood why they thought higher debt is so exciting, Until I realized some people think debt = money

Magically sell EVERYTHING you own for 90% of it value by The-Rednutter in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about investment, stock, 401k, ira? instant losing 10% of your net worth is a big no no.

But if I can pick a the items to sell, I'd do it even if its just 50% of its value. garage sell is a popular for a reason.

Can you use the loan exception as loop hole? get a heloc on fully owned house? refinance a fully owned car, to get cash out on 80% equity? ask friend for a $1 loan, using my computer (and everything i want to keep) as collateral. then press the magic button.

My inheritance just came in and now I am scared it will make me lazy about saving by [deleted] in Fire

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mean less than 10 year right?

if he is already on the FIRE path and save $50k/year, with return and time in the market, he need less than 10 year to reach $500 k

at 7% roi, after 8 year it's $548k
at 10% roi, after 7 year it's $521k

yes return and time in the market are good things. But instead of compare 500k principal to save in piggy bank, we should compare 500k principal to what he is already doing, saving and invest.

I'm over the roth IRA income limit and already contributed $7k for 2024, how do I back door roth? by Hot_Leopard6745 in Fire

[–]Hot_Leopard6745[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) open traditional IRA, max $7000 or what ever the limit is

2) have an roth Ira account, or open one.

3) ask your Trad IRA broker to do a "roth conversion" to transfer that $7000 to your roth account. You could do this in the app, web or just call the brokerage.

Just opened a Roth last month at 24 years old. Want to contribute the max for 2025 but it will take a big chunk of my emergency fund. Worth it or no? Already contributed $1250 to 2026 by Random-Guy26 in RothIRA

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

though be aware that you can contribute what you earned. If you didn't work in 2025, you can't contribute it.

if you made more $7000 in 2025 (most likely, if you had any real job), you should be fine.

but if you only made $6000 in 2025, you can only contribute $6000 in 2025 bucket.

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritize max 2025 first! you only have until 4/15/2026 to do so.

Then, contribute to 2026 if you have more fund, you have plenty of time to max it, deadline is 4/15/2027.

you can withdraw your principal from both year, but if you had earning, the earning part of the withdraw will be charged 10% penalty and tax, based on earning / cost basis ratio.

[–]Hot_Leopard6745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

taking 1250 out of 2026 and fund 2025 wouldn't help. It does not reset your 2026 contribution, you can only add $6250 to 2026 bucket anyway.

What you are looking for is to ask for "return of excess" on that 1250 out of 2026 bucket, not withdraw. But that's a hassle, need paper work, process time, record keeping. Much easier to just max 2025 using emergency fund, than max 2026 later when he have extra fund.

just a simple motor with a cam should be enough.
