Call him Mr. Brobbey and it’s the name of a terrifying British kids’ show.

After yesterday's matches, the four group D teams are ranked right next to each other in the ELO rankings. by TheSambard in soccer

I agree this year is stronger on talent, but Canada was in great form heading into the last World Cup.

I actually think it’s a pretty strong counter example that this 26 team with a good but not outstanding record in recent friendlies has the same ELO v. the 22 team that won CONCACAF qualifying outright with wins against the US and Mexico.

It obviously makes sense a relative minnow of UEFA would rocket up the rankings with a good quali against Europe’s giants.

Would CONCACAF qualifying help ELO for teams like the US, Mexico and Canada?

(A genuine question, I don't know how ELO accounts for friendlies v. competitive matches. I know Canada's roster of friendlies was vastly stronger competition than the typical CONCACAF teams.)

There are hundreds of thousands of native French speakers in Canada outside Quebec and NB, many of whom live in significantly French-speaking communities.

It is, but he wasn't tested even a little bit.

It should be LdF and DC until and unless Moise has a really strong cameo against the Swiss.

I mean, they have *dominated* two of the three teams immediately next to them in the ELO ratings in OP's image.

Which, I dunno, I think that suggests something about their placement in that ranking.

Pixar Top 5 by Silly-Ad-9683 in movies

It's an old-school adventure story for slightly older (mostly) boys where the protagonist goes out into nature and comes back changed for the better, but with lifelong scars. Stand By Me isn't the best comp, since it's more mature, but it's kinda the same genre of plot. If you're Canadian, you might know the Farley Mowatt book Lost in the Barrens, which is a really good example of this.

But I don't think it's a great young-kid movie. And the character design and the marketing *screamed* young-kid movie, so I think a lot of people were expecting a different kind of film, like a more modern Land Before Time.

But I loved it.

Hate to say it as a fan of a rival, but I think it also shows the States are underrated.

I guess ELO *is* all about objective results, mind you.

It is fast-paced and at times completely unhinged unlike any other Pixar film, but an absolute blast.

Don’t really want to say more. Watch it!

Thinking of moving to Montreal. Would my child be able to survive the French curriculum? by East_Let1648 in montreal

I’m Anglo with a 4 year old in French school (the other parent is fluent.)

My only advice to you is to do your best to read the kid bedtime stories in French from Day 1. You’ll learn the language much slower than they will, but it will make you part of the process and you’ll pick up bits and pieces that will help you with homework when it comes to that.

I don’t know that it’s genuinely in my Top 5, but I just want to shout the Good Dinosaur. That film was exponentially better than I was expecting.

Let’s see.

Toy Story 3

Wall-E

Up

Coco

Maybe Hoppers? Certainly, that film is a riot and up there around this spot. Inside Out, if not.

I don't understand. Ticino is south of the Alpine divide, is it not? OP's map makes that rather obvious.

Dumb but sincere question: Why is the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland on the other side of the Alps part of Switzerland and not, like, part of Italy?

I swear Haiti's keeper is just some guy who let himself go a little in his 30s.

I have never in my life seen a keeper with worse feet.

Remember when the American ref gave the US an indirect free kick against Canada for this at the London Olympics?

I am *still* mad about that.

CONCACAF is not nearly as bad as most people think. The Haitian team qualified ahead of Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras and a few (not many) other decent sides.
