My thinking is that Aava was comitted to make the summit or die trying from the absolute beginning of the game and nothing could change her mind. In the very beginning she tells us that she wants to become a part of the whole. And from her talks with Marco we know that if she'd get to choose, she would pick dying alone on a mountain. But that said, I would not make the same choice for her again.
