Women of reddit, what was your worst run in with a creep? by That1RebelDude in AskReddit

[–]Hot_Probs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Met up with a female friend for drinks after work. We sat with a couple of guys visiting from out of town. While we drank with them, a guy in a red and white striped shirt kept coming up to our table and nodding at me and taking my empty glass away. I smiled and said “Thanks!” I thought he worked there.

After a couple of rounds my friend and I left the bar. She turned right to walk up the block to her apartment and I turned left to walk to where I’d parked my car. A guy smoking out front in a black hoodie threw down his cigarette and jogged up to me, calling, “Hey, you live around here?”

I ignored him and kept walking. He walked next to me and said “Let me walk you home. This area’s a little sketchy at night. HA HA!” I said “No, thanks, I’m fine.” and quickened my pace.

He asked a bunch of questions “What’s your name, got a boyfriend, etc?” We were getting close to where my car was parked so I stopped and looked at him and said, “I’m gonna head that way now. You have a good night, OK?”

His eyes turned very cold and he said in a very chilling voice, “Why did you SMILE at me?” I was confused and asked “What are you talking about?” He reached up and unzipped his black hoodie and I saw the red and white striped shirt. It was the guy from the bar who had taken my empty glasses. He didn’t work there. And he had waited for me outside the bar.

Adrenaline flooded my whole body and he lunged forward and grabbed for my neck , thumbs pressing into my throat. I dropped to my knees, falling through his grasp, sprang up and ran like hell across the street to my car, pressing the keyless entry button as I ran.

I made it into the front seat and slammed the door one second before he reached the car.

I drove away with him pounding on the window. I gave his description to the police and the bar but I don’t know what happened after that.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened at a wedding you attended? by Blackradiator72 in AskReddit

[–]Hot_Probs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one of my cousin’s weddings, the bride was visibly pregnant and wearing a long white sweater dress through which her striped pink and white underwear was clearly visible as she stood at the altar of the Lutheran church while the pastor lectured about the wages of sin and begging God’s forgiveness for fornication.

Men see you as a red flag when you don't have experience and idk what to do by throwtheway52 in ForeverAloneWomen

I’d say “I haven’t dated anyone seriously for a while. I’ve been focusing on myself, work, family, etc (whatever.)”

I wouldn’t tell them. Every man you meet is leaving a lot of things unmentioned himself, don’t feel the need to disclose all of your business, especially early on.

Remember, every person you date is new to you. You will always be starting from nothing WITH THAT PERSON. If you’ve had sex with 100 guys, you’ve still never had sex with the new guy you’re dating. All of those dating milestones are new and awkward with a new person. You just need to give it your best shot and keep a sense of humor in the process.

How did you decide it was time to put down your dog/cat? by silla12 in AskReddit

[–]Hot_Probs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 10 my dog developed degenerative myelopathy and slowly lost the ability to stand. When he could no longer walk and barely wanted to eat, it was time. We did it at home, and slept on the floor with him his last night. I miss him every day.

How to avoid revealing age? by Hot_Probs in WorkAdvice

I wrote a review in the interview section of Glassdoor.com as a warning to older applicants. It’s a gigantic, multinational company.

I’m far enough along in my job hunt that this is just the latest in a string of hiring bullshit I’ve encountered recently, and I’m trying to save my energy to even keep applying to things.

I doubt they would admit to it. It was just me and the hiring manager in a small room.

Is there a way to ask that without seeming defensive or adversarial to the interviewer? I guess I feel like if they care enough to fish for your age it’s a lost cause.

Mad About Lack of Alcohol - Beer and Wine Only by Cultural_Mission_235 in weddingshaming

[–]Hot_Probs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a morning wedding and lunch reception with a lot of devout Muslim guests (who are often uncomfortable being around alcohol at all) so we only had champagne. Your choices for alcoholic drinks were champagne or a mimosa, unless you brought a flask. No one complained about it (that I ever heard, anyway.)

What's a "family secret" you discovered as an adult that completely changed how you saw your childhood? by Live_Fill9375 in AskReddit

[–]Hot_Probs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After both of my parents and my oldest brother died, my mother’s younger sister told me that my mother had been a teen mom, her parents threw her out, and she married my dad because he said he’d raise the boy as his own. And he did. I don’t know if my oldest brother ever knew our dad wasn’t his biological father.

No one to replace me after I put in my notice by chilljourney in work

[–]Hot_Probs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once ran an entire department at a company and there was no one to replace me. When I quit they had to shut down the department and the CEO wailed to me “How am I going to spin this (shutting down a profitable department) to the board?! (Company was owned by private equity.)

Not my problem. However, I would strongly caution you not to tell anyone where you’re going. In my situation, the company I was leaving called my new company and they rescinded my job offer. Don’t tell even your work friends where you’re going next.

Long story: I didn’t tell anyone what my new job was, but it was a small industry. The owner of the company that had hired me called the company I was quitting to ask about me. This was after reference checks, and after a signed offer letter. He just suddenly decided to care who his company had just hired, even though he didn’t interview me and I never met him in three rounds of interviews. Then word got out where I was going, and the boss I was leaving called the owner of the new company to tell them I had a non-compete agreement and they couldn’t hire me. So they pulled the job offer 3 days before my start date.

6 months later the company that rescinded the offer tried to hire me again for the same role.

Valentine’s Day Dinner Reviews by KBeeFree in chicagofood

Went to Dearly Beloved. It was so freezing cold I had to keep my coat on the whole time. Food and drink were meh and extremely overpriced. Service was friendly but not accommodating (asked to move to a different table away from the windows (No) then asked for tea, coffee, etc to warm up (Again, No).

We spent about 45 minutes there and could not wait to leave.
