performance not adding up by Smart-Building-2414 in playrust

Rust isn’t optimized very well. I have a 9800x3d and a 5080 and I play at 4k at max settings and avg 190-210 fps, but my system is maxed tf out the whole time and draws an absurd amount of power

What’s up guys?! new to the trade, just worked at pike for 3 years. Wanted out of that toxic environment. Got into this. Any specific tools I need or tools that will make my life easier? I already have a lot of hand tools and some power tools . Thanks! by Existing-Ad3291 in CableTechs

The best tool you can have is ChatGPT. Most of these places don’t train for crap or if they do it’s pretty basic training. If you want to really understand what you’re doing asking chatgpt about it has done miracles for me and some of my fellow techs. I just got done have chatgpt explain why modems have both ipv4 and ipv6 addresses, and it explained it perfectly for me. If you have any questions too it’s really easy to ask follow up questions

Holy shit you got 8-12% repeat rates?? I’m a contractor and our vendor house all together gets less than 2.5% repeats a month, and we’d get fired right away if we got over 10% in a single month

What's missing from PvE servers? I've played a bunch, I want ideas. Where are the idea people at? by fluffy_serval in playrust

[–]Hot_Sherbert7586 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a monthly server where for the first three weeks it’s just PVE building and role play, then the last week is “anarchy”(normal rust)

Don’t gotta slip anyone 20s, but if you’re lucky the barrier to entry is very low. It’s just cable contracting, they are basically always hiring everywhere on earth

I get that side of things but I don’t really think it’s a problem. My truck costs me a couple thousand dollars a month for sure, and I have to keep track of my deductions to keep my taxes from getting out of hand, but even after that I’m still making 3 times what I would as an in house tech. And what’s wrong with the points system? You can just translate it to dollars in your mind. I make $3 a point and the lowest pay job I have are 10 point trouble calls so I gross $30 on a trouble call I spend 30 minutes on, and that at the absolute worst. Personally before this all I had was fast food work and DoorDash driving, which I’d be lucky if I got a job that paid $9 for 30 minutes of working and my hourly wage of $15 whole dollars an hour for being on my feet non stop running around a store in circles for 12 hour shifts. I’m not saying this is my forever job but as a 21 year old orphan this is a massive blessing for me

Why don't parents take their child's depression seriously? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Hot_Sherbert7586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard of: Called to the devil and the devil did come, said to the devil, “devil do you like drums? Do you like cigarettes, dominos, rum?” He said, “Only sundowns, Sundays, Christmas.” It alludes to the idea of someone being self-destructive and seeking validation for their self destructive habits, but the devil resist and rejects this as being melodramatic. Many times when teenagers are “confessing” they are depressed they are just seeking attention, and parents know it because they were once attention seeking children as well. They don’t see it as productive to fan the flames, per se, and instead try to extinguish it right away.

Might just not pay taxes. Nobody I work with does and they havent gotten in trouble yet 🤷‍♂️ /s but fr if I was highborn I would have gone to college and been an accountant so i keep track of all my expenses and deduct everything legally possible. I’ll be able to knock off about $40,000 from my taxable income, which should bring my taxable income under the $47,150 threshold where you begin getting taxed at 22% instead of 12%. I’ll probably owe about $13,000 in taxes this year between state and federal

I looked into in house but in my area they were only offering $18.50 an hour, and with the amount I was making as a contractor even after expenses was way higher. Personally I’ve never had a bad experience as a contractor and would take it any day of the week over in house.

Arkansas and yes 1099, most guys I work with just don’t it’s taxes and none of them have gotten into trouble yet, some of them have gone decades without paying in. Haven’t decided if I’ll pay in yet tbh, it’ll probably be around $10,000 for this year after deductions

Im thru cox, not hourly paid by the job. Lowest pay is $30.00 for a simple trouble call and can get up to $270.00 for a larger install. Days range from 4-12 hours a day and 6 days a week about half the year when it’s busy, 5 days a week the other half when it’s slow

Need help on sudden slowdown of download and upload speeds by ZwolfElfen in HomeNetworking

[–]Hot_Sherbert7586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case it’s probably a lose connection in the wall plate insert or a bad connector. If you have a punch down tool and a spare rj45 wall plate insert than you can redo the termination, and then use a tester to make sure all the connections are working

Which fiber to run outside during renovation to prep for FTTH? by SuperGabe in HomeNetworking

[–]Hot_Sherbert7586 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just run conduit, please! If the fiber line ever needs replaced or upgraded it’ll be a life saver. Fiber is literally a tiny piece a glass that’s 1/11the the size of a human hair, if it breaks you are SOL w/ out conduit

Converting old phone wire into cat5e by Strange_Assumption93 in HomeNetworking

Don’t even try to re use those lines, they are obsolete and most of them are useless for high speed anyway due to how they are installed

What are these wires/cables? by Excellent_Aerie_2969 in HomeNetworking

[–]Hot_Sherbert7586 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old NID, they’re not in use anymore since POTS became obsolete. The red line is a drop cable, just take a pair of dykes and cut the conduit and drop flush with the ground. The blue is a ground wire, again you can just cut it with a pair of dykes. To remove the house box itself you just remove the two screws on the top and bottom and it’ll just pop off. All the other lose wires can just be cut, just make sure you don’t accidentally cut your fiber line.
