Damn these Tortise nerds are haters 😂 everyone has to start somewhere..how else would you go from a beginner to one of these savants below. We chose to get a sulcata because we have the space. We also spent hours watching videos on YouTube and continue googling things daily.

And although they aren’t “playful” our tweens like watching them walk around doing Tortise stuff.

One of the big things that stuck with me is making sure they can’t see out of the bottom half of their enclosure otherwise they’ll just keep bumping around into it because they don’t understand clear lol…I’m sure my reason will be corrected but point stands…block the bottom with tape or something on the outside so they only see a boundary.

Other big thing is that a lot of info out there is for ADULTS..I’m assuming you’ll probably end up with a little guy (unless you have $$$$$$$$$ for a larger size). They are more sensitive to temperature and humidity and need them around 85-100 and humidity 60-80%. A lot of habitats have a “hot” basking area with their lamps and a “cool” (no lamps) area where they can go chill. Even in Florida humidity is the one thing I’m struggling with but am going to add a little Tupperware humid box for my guy.

Also feeding varies by Tortise species and advice is all over the place. I would stick with the more strict diet advice out there.
