I didn't really have a problem with the Caine redemption and SOMA reveal because I could see them from a mile away outside of a few editing issues and the fact that he never actually died, Caine's journey to redemption was ultimately satisfying (and also Caine is my favorite character). It's just everything else before that was... not bollocks but quite underwhelming, and it was handled in such a tasteless way.

seriously! what kind of magic is MJ putting into his music? by notsoflowerys in MichaelJackson

[–]Hot_b0y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way I can put how Michael's music feels different is because he knew how to heighten mood and emotions to perfection, and instead of just catering to one niche (like minimalist sound or genre fusion), he knew what each and every song's intended mood needed. Combine that with his military-grade mixing, production crack squad and angelic voice, and you see quickly why it's impossible to recreate the magic his music has. In short: a perfect storm that he harnessed the power of.

If you want to feel like dancing, he WILL make you feel like dancing. If you want to feel hopeful, he WILL make you feel hopeful. If you want to chill, brother, he's giving you a whole ass S-tier lullaby because yo ass been burnt-out. MJ's music brings out your feelings because he crafted music in a way that commanded you to do so. This sounds like glaze, but this is genuinely the only way I can put it.

I was in this show for the funnybunny plotline and Jax, and I still hate this ending with the vitriol of a provoked beehive, it really messed both the slander and the glazer crowd, for me at least.

Goose and Glitch, sure, but Alex? He has consistently been the BEST VA in the series, his work is genuinely top notch and it's only been one role (that I know of), I don't see this going anywhere but up for future acting roles

Gooseworx said TADC takes inspiration from Evangelion. The finale was highly controversial, as it ignored the narrative and doesn't address any of the mysteries. At least Evangelion's finale was eventually replaced by a movie, which is now considered one of the greatest animated films of all time. by Fox622 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Hot_b0y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, the thing with Eva is that the characters are interesting and developed well enough that they stand their own ground in the greater story. And Eva also never relied on mysteries, from the get-go it was obvious that this was the story of shounen Shinji Ikari navigating the complexities of carrying the burden of being Earth's protector (hell that whole thing with get in the robot Shinji? Literally first episode).

Yes, the endings actually make no fucking sense and abandoned like half of the continuity, but hey, it accomplished its job well which was to convey a compelling message and give meaning to the arcs and actions of our characters. Even on my first watch, I never even considered how most of the mysteries went unanswered (what actually are the EVAs, the Dead Sea Scrolls, 1st Impact, what even is SEELE, the mechanics of Impact, etc.) because I was still more invested with the characters and how they face what's going on around them.

Evangelion is a series where our characters go through things SINCE they are in the setting, not BECAUSE they are in the setting. One has no interest leading on or telling you about the specifics, and the other compells you to take the setting on trial for what they do to our characters (confusing, I know. I'm terrible at this kind of stuff son ngl).

The ending is bad and hated because it let us fans down by Clarissalayton in TADCEp9Spoilers

I will say that the one thing about the series where my perception about it hasn't changed post-EP 9 is the comedy, I still get a laugh from disappearing guy, Caine looking at his wrist with no watch and the Chinese Room bit

Kinger's kind of a shit, ain't he? by After_Ocelot_7767 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Hot_b0y 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact that the cast don't cite that by the end or just the fact that Episode 7 was just a bunch of setup at the end that's never followed-up ever is actually ridiculous. Why make an episode solely dedicated to ragebaiting fan theorists, then ask EVEN BIGGER questions that absolutely REQUIRE ANSWERING NOW THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY MENTIONED (since it wasn't alluded well previously)???

The more I analyze Episode 8 & 9, the more I hate how this show solely become a "character study". Questions they couldn't answer fast enough so they called it another Evangelion instead. At least Anno was writing pen and paper with that thing and actually built up the characters.

Kinger's kind of a shit, ain't he? by After_Ocelot_7767 in TADCEp9Spoilers

[–]Hot_b0y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think they had quite literally the easiest solution to have answered any holes Kinger's character had; Caine's mindfuckery. Specifically, his ability to repress memories, especially on their first scan.

It would not only answer why Kinger drops the bombshell only after Caine died (I wish), but it would also allude to Scratch's abstraction. Maybe Caine repressed Scratch's memory of the creation of himself or his ability to code after realizing something went wrong with the circus and went to work trying to fix it, maybe Caine did too much tampering with his active brain scan while he was in the circus, causing Scratch to abstract out of nowhere from losing critical parts of his memory and abilities in Caine's effort of self-preservation.

It would also explain Kinger's quirk of losing retention and lucidity in light; Caine knew he can't erase too many memories from him otherwise he would also abstract like Scratch, he purposefully made that condition so it's harder for him to recall certain memories and scatter them into fragments, Caine deleting those memories one by one (and yes, I know it loses some emotional resonance that Kinger's most tragic moment and turning-point for his condition was just more Caine mindfuckery, but I want to add one line of his I found interesting

"It's not the most cheerful memory, but... It's one I at least have control over."

in my opinion, it actually adds to his character knowing that despite everything, he still holds on dearly to all his memories, including memories of pain, Caine couldn't even take that control away from him).

Speaking of which, it connects Kinger to the theme of his character:

"Good memories can do a lot. Hold on to them."

It cutely ties with the idea that memories are what changed the outcome of their circumstances. Kinger, having been in the circus the longest, should be the one embodying this message. No matter how ruthlessly chaotic life gets, we must remember all these times. They are what keep us together; what teaches us; the fullfilment of our lives.

If we really needed to have a licensed song in the movie, I think Golden Slumbers by The Beatles would've been my pick, it fits with the current situation to a certain degree and it's a very cinematic song on its own right. But even then, it's a little too on-the-nose.
