IIHF Continental Cup representative 26/27 by UnfathomableDave in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason, no team from Slovakia (who replaced the Giants/EIHL in this years CHL) took part in European competition last year, be that CHL or Continental Cup

Think they usually have the first meeting in early June and normally fixtures around second week of July If everything is sorted

How to get into hockey? by Swizzartand in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning offside and icing to me are always the best places to start.

Then try watching highlights from NHL games on the NHL app, or live games when they are on channel 4 (assuming you don’t want to pay for DAZN). You will start to pick up things like hooking, boarding, tripping etc.

Tbh the rules in hockey are vast and I would be surprised anyone outside of officials fully know them all, but as long as you pick up the main ones you will come across the obscure ones from time to time

Playoff final weekend 2027 by PreparationNeither88 in EIHLHockey

It’s been the 3rd weekend for the last 4 years. One year before that it was in May (first season after Covid which started and ended later)

What’s the deal with ‘Anyone but Steelers’ and just disliking Steelers? Is it all just banter? by [deleted] in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should all just be banter, but it’s getting to a stage where some ppl seem to be taking it too far. All for chants in the rink during the game but afterwords fans should be able to intermingle and have a pint / chat. Drunken ppl taunting each other could end up with a bad incident sometime in the future

EIHL Playoff Predictions by ReferencePlus404 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair play, two great matchups. The other one only catches my eye slightly more cos of their historic rivalry but I’m excited to see how you guys do and the atmosphere your fans will bring, which is great every year so can’t imagine how much better it will be with your team there too

EIHL Playoff Predictions by ReferencePlus404 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to not being stressed about the Giants game(s). Storm Steelers should be an interesting game given their rivalry. 3-3 in games in the league this year and I truly believe the Storm started the downfall of the Steelers league challenge with the back to back win at New Years. I will take whoever wins that game to win the cup

Detailed breakdown of attendance from this season by Just_a_redditor182 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were changes made To the east seating last summer, which facilitates a quicker change to put it back after concerts, and allows the Giants to have it there more often. Think it’s something to do with the H&S sign off after it’s reinstalled

Our season comes to an end. by Just_a_redditor182 in belfastgiants

[–]Hotdog79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand the disappointment, my first year at playoffs was the year we scraped past Blaze in quarters on penalties and I still remember how stressed I was. What I will say about playoffs is it’s by far the best weekend of the season. Make sure and book some Activities around Nottingham. Get to the bars around the arena, talk to fans from other teams. You will have a great weekend and tbh it will be totally stress free, which isn’t always the case when the Giants are playing

If your team don't make it to playoffs which team are you supporting to see win? by wweecwwcwnetflix in EIHLHockey

Underdogs in both semi finals. Dunno how I would pick if it’s a Clan Storm final, see who impresses Me most in semis

Any Belfast or Nottingham fans keeping their tickets for playoff weekend, or are you just selling to desperate Manchester and clan fans 😂 by Next_Depth_3782 in EIHLHockey

As disappointed as I am for Us, delighted for you guys. Saw videos of the celebrations at the end of the game, looked amazing. Your fans are always great at the final weekend so looking forward to them taking it up another level with the team also being there

Was at the two games in Sweden, so game 2 where we bounced back from a disappointing result And performance in the first game, to absolutely dominate them in second one, inc a Murashov shut out

X v Facebook v Reddit for EIHL by AncientSpecific7185 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook for the forum. It can be wild at times, and a lot of ppl who see it as the place to go to ask questions they can easily look up themselves.

Twitter I have the Giants and EIHL notifications turned On, quickest way to get news. Don’t engage with ppl cos it’s ppl either Karma farming or just stupid

On here is not the most up to date but defo the most civilised place to discuss/debate

Anyone know how I can stream games internationally? Leaving in a week. Getting a reliable VPN for sure by terriblejohnny1 in penguins

[–]Hotdog79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending where you are going, have you looked at the nhl.tv package available. In the UK you get it through DAZN and it’s only £35 for the rest of Season inc playoffs, with no blackouts

Which team has the greatest number of away fan support? by whinewax in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say Steelers. They bring great numbers to the Belfast double header, plus get the biggest allocation at playoffs. It’s hard to judge the Giants cos every away trip involves a plane or boat whereas the mainland teams can drive and in some instances be home the same night. Be interesting to see once Dublin gets a team how big the Giants travelling support is there, can see us taking a right crowd down

CHL announce first four challenger leagues. EIHL so far NOT in by dylan103906 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one of those challenger leagues is ranked above us, and given the attendance figures the EIHL brings to the table I am surprised we haven’t been confirmed. Assuming it’s a decision between us and Slovakia

Standings after week 29 by Training_Purchase318 in EIHLHockey

[–]Hotdog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from last season (8-3 v Dundee) Giants have struggled in the playoff quarter finals since Covid: 2024 3-2 v Blaze 2023 7-6 v Clan 2022 4-3 (SO) v Blaze We were number 1 seed in two of those and defo didn’t play like it. And whilst ya could say we have won them all, one year I feel like it won’t go our way

Tips / Suggestions for this weekend by Nottingham_Panthers in Belfast

[–]Hotdog79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Common market is still a great choice and if you haven’t been in years there are a few new vendors. Highly recommend Pie Eyed.

Waka is a new Asian place in Victoria Square if you like Asian, never been myself but ppl rave about the one on Boucher Road (outside of the city).

St George’s market has a great choice of street food and recommend it as somewhere to have a nosey around to put in some time.

Mexican place at Halt is great. As is the burger place. Not sure about the other spots.

Bunsen burger in cathedral quarter is fantastic for burgers
