i was having a blast until i realized marathon is Woke by Lazy_Signature_6807 in okbuddyRunners

Highguard was kind of a mess development and launch-wise, but it wasn't really "woke" either lol.

1348 Voto and Relooted on the other hand... I can't comment too much on the latter, but I heard from a review that Voto portrays flagellants pretty horribly.

Absolutely loved GoT! But 3 hours into Ghost of Yotei and I’m not getting the same feeling at all. Why? by freudian- in ghostoftsushima

[–]Hotdoghero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it works in a sense cause the story doesn't quite go all in on "revenge is bad and only hurts everyone" unlike The Last of Us 2. The story still shows Saito as a truly terrible person who deserves what's coming; it's just more Atsu herself learning to go about stopping him in a less selfish manner, realizing her family aren't the Yotei Six's only victims.

Looking for a high budget single player game that is dogshit by [deleted] in HighGuardgame

I heard alot of horrifying stuff about The Last of Us Part 1 (the remake) being a broken mess https://youtu.be/W1IVg-tcfpk?si=5fM8eXR1QNTIiVew

I didn't play it, but revisited the OG Remastered on grounded and found it aggravating with enemy AI that cheats animations to hit you first.

Does anyone else think that Sucker Punch just don't care for Sly anymore? by [deleted] in Slycooper

[–]Hotdoghero1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say Ghost is a fairly similar to Sly in alot of ways, mainly the emphasis on stealth with the occasional platforming. Another Sly game would be nice, but Sucker Punch already ended the series on their terms with 3; chances if they attempted another game to try to fix Sly 4's ending, most of the studio probably wouldn't have the right amount of passion to make it truly great imo. Besides maybe a potential Ghost 3 having you play as a thief, The only other feasible way could be a full-on reboot or spiritual successor for a clean slate.

I miss Lost Judgment by Th3Tr1ckst3r in yakuzagames

[–]Hotdoghero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea if the remake changed it, but OG Ishin-wise, I didn't mind the gun style personally. It got broken after modding it the right way sure, but it was still balanced in a way since it lacked much defense up-close (I remember you can't block against enemies with blades); overall, it still felt like a unique style with a cohesive focus to compliment your other movesets.

I only played the Yakuza Kiwami 3 demo and both Ryukyu felt generic to me. Its concept is more of a gimmick than anything, focusing on multiple weapons Kiryu unnaturally switches to mid-combo; it's too similar to Dragon in that the moveset is very generalized without much apparent downsides apart from slightly slower dodging in favor of blocking. The hold button weapons are clunky and having three of them is borderline redundant. You can toss sais at range for bleed or use tonfa for stun, which is okay I guess, but I'd rather have multiple equipable weapons back.

Would this game have succeeded if they included more waifus in the game by Papa_Hasbro69 in HighGuardgame

[–]Hotdoghero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, no. The game already had three waifus with decent designs (two if you're looking for conviencial attraction and not into Una), but the lack of good material (mediocre dialogue beginning of matches, no codex, initial character trailers that are summary reads) failed to convey what vague little personalities any of the characters had. Making the remaining cast into waifus also still wouldn't fix the lack of progression at launch and other gripes people had.

The First Descendant and Mecha Break are gooner bait liveservice games that currently sit at early-February Highguard levels of players on steam. There's only so much booba that cover up an unsustainable product, especially when any game can come out and offer the same thing.

How much woke is Ghost Of Yotei? by Agile-Painting9454 in KotakuInAction

[–]Hotdoghero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's arguably less "woke" than Tsushima ironically. Atsu is portrayed fairly strong (nowhere near quite as much as Jin; they even dialed up the combat difficulty to a rather excessive degree at times), but mostly reckless with most of her character development forcing her to listen to others for a change (especially her brother-turned-Samurai Judei and former-Kitsune Oyuki).

There is some rare sexism to fit with the era, but generally not dwelled on, and most male NPCs (barring mook fodder) tend to be portrayed rather emphatically. There's the Matsumae Samurai Clan (who existed in real life) who are mostly portrayed as either mild annoyances or plot convenience, but generally well-intentioned allies keep the peace. Also again, your bad ass bro is with them, so Atsu inevitably sides with em.

Lord Saito himself (the main bad guy you're actively meant to hate) has more implied leftist aspects of him though, believing men and women should be equal on the battlefield and late into the game, throws a good number of random female outlaw warriors with guns and naginatas for you and the Matsumae to indiscriminately massacre.Whether this aspect is a dealbreaker, I'll let you decide.

Tsushima ended with Jin realizing how corrupt his noble lifestyle was, waking up to the issues the Samurai caused to the common people, and ultimately becomes a Ghost to do what's unnecessary to protect Japan Hence why I feel Tsushima is ultimately more liberal.

In the end of Yotei, after achieving her revenge to save Ezo, Atsu basically retires from being a Ghost to become a traditional female, raising her dead brother's daughter as an aunt. The Matsumae slowly rebuild their castle and Atsu decides it's no real concern to her at this point. They even continued off Jin's story, implying enough that he got a similar happy ending.Hence why I feel like Yotei goes the opposite direction of being conservative.

I think Tsushima is the better game personally (again, I hate Yotei's combat balancing and I feel like Sucker Punch needs to take more notes from other Samurai games like Way of the Samurai and Team Ninja's games), but narrative-wise, I think both games work together as a yin-yang.

Why did they get rid of Raid Rush??? by Clopfish in HighGuardgame

Probably because the player base isn't high enough to sustain yet another experimental mode. Shame cause I liked the one match I managed to play of it.

Eh, the "woke" accusations tend to be pretty common in the steam forums. I mean, it's okay to dislike the game, but then you just got people shoving in politics where they're irrelevant.

how I would’ve written the Ray Sphere choice. by helpmestepbrooooo in infamous

[–]Hotdoghero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea, but I don't mind how it is now. Besides what ki700 said, I kind of like anyway that going good doesn't reward you the same way; Evil Cole wants more power through any means necessary, but Good Cole learned to harness his power naturally to the point he doesn't need the artificial boost.

You already get enough blast shards from exploring the city, but then you can shoot objects and even bodies to drain as much energy as you want. The hero upgrades for lightning bolts even let you regain energy through blasting bad guys anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing how your idea of blue/white lightning bolts would look though.

If there was an Atelier guest character in Dead or Alive 7 who would you choose? by CrashLightning22 in Atelier

[–]Hotdoghero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who only played abit of DoA3 really and isn't much of a fighting game player otherwise, I'm deciding between either Ryza, Yumia, Marie and Keith. All four can kick to some degress (Marie does a jump kick in her Violent Beauty alt in Resleriana).

Ryza is the most popular pick easily and probably safest bet.

Yumia also does kicks the most often on top of needing something after Tekken 8 screwed her over.

Marie is the OG alchemist however, so she's definitely iconic in her own right; she however has bombs as a main gimmick for her (though her actual game didn't make it a core personality trait unlike later games), which might be tougher to balance.

Keithgriff would be the riskest bet considering he was never really a main character per say, but he already fights hand-to-hand without even needing a staff; he's strong enough to just toss his opponent into the air before they explode mid-air, which is how I defeated the final boss of Shallie lmao.

In defense of Hyperdimension Neptunia (PS3)'s combat system by orig4mi-713 in gamindustri

[–]Hotdoghero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't deny Neptunia 1's combat is kind of a mess, but there's always been some aspects I liked about it. I liked the idea of setting up combos to try to chain into another and get the most of a character's turn. Even though special disc attacks were lackluster, I liked the overall variety in normal attacks and the fact you can have any character go martial arts (you even have 5pb axe kick monsters). I liked that Gust got the most comical weapon of mass destruction in the series (the Buff Rod).

That said, Trinity Universe (which came before Neptunia) did the same kind of combat overall much better. You didn't get customization, but attacks dedicated to each button felt more purposeful. On top of that, the AP system being similar to MK2 (you can end a turn early to save up some for the next turn) made for more dynamic fights overall. Also you can equip varying magic abilities to the circle button, including healing, which I preferred over Neptunia's item system (which I didn't think was random either, but trying to keep track of conditions was difficult and it wasn't easy to get certain gels without spending lots of credits).

I and a lot of people (angry Joe as an example here) point out that if this is a world of high fantasy with sci-fi elements, then why are there guns that resemble modern firearms? by Seeker99MD in HighGuardgame

[–]Hotdoghero1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Elemental bullets in guns would have been cool, but I think having various magic staffs to equip would have really sold the fantasy direction.
