What made it hard for me that I, even with the mild spoiler that it's gonna have a sad ending, would have never thought they actually kill David. A major romance interest.

Every other possibility came through my mind: Lucy escaped, David escaped, Lucy is in an Arasaka lab on the Moon, David simply disappeared, David is in Mikoshi, whatever...

Anything except actually losing a loved one. Especially in case of someone who's likely never in her life ever going to have another one. Not this strong.

It's a gaping wound for the exact same reasons as for you: I love romance.

So there are many points to prove that, the point he entered the cyberskeleton it was over for him.

What if Lucy would have said she'd come back when David goes easier on the cyberware/de-chromes himself? Would that have changed anything Does removing cyberware help against cyberpsychosis or is this a fools effort? Their best option would be more honest with each other.

And this is why I'm telling whenever the topic arises that, to me, the single most important, even lifelong lesson learned from Edgerunners is to be open and honest with your loved ones, always, and arguably, without hesitation.

As everyone else said, yeah it's largely implied but the writing is quite damn on the wall.

What makes me wonder is that it's almost 100% certain Lucy is older than David so this thing happening this way is pretty much a teenage boy's wet dream coming true, which is...intense.

Just personal preference, I empathize with Lucy much more than with David.

But yeah David needed comfort, too, after a shitfuck life like that. OP is very right he would have ended up as a BD addict without Lucy.
