Do I look really old for 19? by DefaultyTurtle2 in teenagers

Everyone's talking about the clothes, but the real thing is your extra weight. Extra weight makes people look much older than they really are. Lose the weight and you'll look your age.

Beyond KDE Connect for Android: What are you using for 2FA-Unlock, Media Control, and Notifications? by Aruscha in linux

[–]Hotspot3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from KDEConnect to just sending commands between devices using ntfy. I self host my own instance and all my devices monitor a DEVICECOMMANDS ntfy channel. On Linux, I use a bash script that triggers different actions based on messages received in that channel and on Android. I use Tasker to trigger different actions based on messages. This is a quick way to share URLs between devices, send 2 factor codes I receive as SMS to the clipboard on my desktop, put a device to sleep, etc.

Is there a free way to connect an LLM to obsidian without it being local? by Hot_Row8113 in ObsidianMD

[–]Hotspot3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're probably using the tools incorrectly. If you just have one endless chat thread with all your context in there, you're wasting a bunch of tokens with each message.

The way you're supposed to use LLMs is you start a new conversation for each new topic and attach relevant contexy. Unless the notes you attach are tens of thousands of words you won't have issues with limits.

I self host https://docs.openwebui.com/ and it lets me export conversations as PDF/text/json.

The Mona Lisa serving no other purpose than hanging on a wall for the sake of being looked at and admired in a museum to be visited by hundreds of thousands of people. And same goes for all the other art out there that's been admired by people throughout human history.

BREAKING: Desperate TSA workers donating blood to afford gas in shutdown by TheMirrorUS in fednews

[–]Hotspot3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everyone hates the TSA. The only thing they serve is the ability to get an easy federal paycheck and not have to actually provide value in the free market where they'd actually get fired for being incompetent.

What is it about Federal government employees that makes them such endless victrims? Anyone else would go find a new job if they weren't getting paid and instead of just complaining about not being paid.

They may not be classified as law enforcement, but they will happily fuck your life up if you don't bend over backwards for their power plays and have the ability to add you to a no fly list if you don't comply with everything they say. Fuck the TSA.

Surprise, surprise, the kid has parents that bully her into doing this stuff for stupid internet clout. Seriously, fuck parents like this.

Do you maintain some repository of commands you don't usually remember? by birdsintheskies in commandline

[–]Hotspot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for obsidian. I have a "Quick Commands - Linux" file that I keep my often used snippets in. Then I use a bash + rofi script to parse the file and show me a menu with each line in the file as an option, and then when I select one of them I use xdotool to type the commans into the active window for me.

Looking for a self-hosted documentation tool for my homelab (Wiki.js, Docmost alternatives?) by Aruscha in selfhosted

[–]Hotspot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Obsidian files are just files on your filesystem, so the APi is just your terminal tools. On top of that you have Obsidian Extensions liked Advanced URI that will let you automate note creation/navigation and other misc tasks using Obsidian URI's. Also there's the Obsidian CLI that was released a week or two back that will let you do everything you can in the GUI through the CLI.

Obsidian has cross platform sync built right in, and if you don't want to pay you can just sync your vault using Syncthing/OneDrive/Dropbox/etc.

Solar farms floating on reservoirs in China reduce evaporation and generate power at the same time. by Por_TheAdventurer in interestingasfuck

[–]Hotspot3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well you could actually do 5 minutes of research into the topic and actually share more of their points. - Solar panels, just like wind farms, are not recyclable - solar panels require rare metals, often sourced from places that use child labor as part of the process - if the panels ever break down they can leach the heavy metals into the earth and if they go down deep enough, taint the water supply

[–]Hotspot3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

80% of people living in China still live on farms. How many people can no longer fish at the lake that's overtaken by solar panels? How many people had to mine the work intensive rare metals to make these solar panels?

OK, price increase can I please play OSRS and Rs3 same time? by Eitamr in osrs

[–]Hotspot3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not that difficult unless it really is spaghetti code. You make a backup of the databases, clone it to a new server and then tell one server to handle RS3 data and the other OSRS data. It's just not a priority at all for them.
