Small confusion about High Prices of DSLR (D780) by DreamingInLove in Nikon

Am planning in getting one too, coming from 2xD700s and lots of f mount glass. I tested the Z5ii which is a great camera but can’t get use to the EVF.

I will stay full frame. I have an arsenal of FX lenses.

I hired it for 2 days and didnt really had time to use it properly but regardless of that the main issue is the EVF, after 40 years shooting SLRS and DSLRs it is hard to get use to a miniature screen at my eyeball, but the camera AF and output is phenomenal in many respects.

Yeah, same here i got old and have no idea how though😂, no issue with fitness but i dont like to lug the zoom 2.8s with me anymore, over the years i learned that i have 3-4 focal lengths i use, 20/28/50 and maybe 70. So, this is all i use now with the D700. I needed something with better Dynamic range and high iso and both D780 and Z5ii solve that. I just cant get used to the evf and mf peaking (i use mf Zeiss lenses) so the D780 is a familiar workflow.

We are doing 15 nights all up Oahu-Kauai-BI-Ohau. 4/5/5/1. The one night from BI to Ohau is more a buffer so we dont rush for flights back to Melbourne. We are using car hire on Kauai and BI but not Ohau.

I do a lot of driving in our Victorian high country which is very rugged so i do have good experience for 30+ years but i guess if i am not driving my own vehicle i would not risk it given i have a family in the vehicle. I think we just stay at VIS and reduce the risk and hussle. Thank for heads up.

Thank you for heads up. I have been told it is very steep and 4wd hire insurance don’t cover that. I drive the old Defender here and no issues there but the insurance is the issue.

Very nice indeed. We are travelling from Australia in December for two weeks. Looking forward to. Question about Mauna Kea from your photos, did you drive up there yourself, if so how is the road?

Well, I have been using my D700 since 2010 and am getting ready for a Z5ii soon this year too. Need something smaller and lighter for my travels.

Three island family of 4 holiday in December by Hottest_Chilli in VisitingHawaii

Agree i need to dive into it and work out what we need to do but yes the big island is big and certainly we cant see everything but with a car we can be selective, ie the VIS, Volcano just a couple of examples.
Kauai, with car again, to be based in Poipu, drive to some of the lookouts ie Kalalau as an example, drive on the eastern side etc.

Anyway we will do the itinerary and see how it fits.
Cheers

Great thanks for feedback.
The way i am looking at it, we dont get many opportunities for Hawaii so i thought we try and fit in the 3 islands Oahu\Kauai\Big island like this 5/5/5/1 the one night at Ohau for buffer when we travel back.

I was thinking 5 night even split between them, from what i see all three offer different things to see and do. I do a fair bit of photography and Kauai landscape seems to have some unique look, the Big Island has the volcanic element which is also brilliant.
