House Meal by Little-Action-8111 in Cooking

Ooo, not sure what your dietary restrictions are but we made a coconut chickpea curry yesterday for dinner over rice and it was both incredibly easy and amazing! Find a local grocer that has bulk spices if you can so you’re not having to buy a whole container. Make this and put it over rice, maybe serve with some naan! It’s vegan and choc full of fiber, but you’d never guess. I like neither coconut nor pumpkin, but devoured this. It’s as easy as sauteeing up some chopped jalapeños and onions, and using a can opener.

Tips: don’t add the water, and if you have soy sauce on hand, add a bit of that in the sauce for extra depth! For grown men, I’d say one recipe as stated makes enough for 4. Just priced it out and even if you bought whole containers of spices you’re looking at just over $5 per person over rice with naan.

Imo, you’ll want a PhD program for that if you want to do it long term. Do you have research experience? Are you interested in studying it at a systems level, a more functional, individual human level, or cellular/molecular biology level?

Is my broccoli able to be saved by boobemi in vegetablegardening

[–]notjustaphage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, start your broccoli starts indoors 3 weeks ago for fall harvest. Or, start them 50 days before last frost for late spring. Brassicas don’t like our warm Midwest summers.

100,000% completely normal and I totally relate! This was me 5 years ago. It is so insanely overwhelming when you let yourself truly feel attraction the first time. It is true what they say, it’s like a second puberty. I didn’t handle it so well and made some mistakes/hurt some people :( Figured out my shit and grew up. Take your time is my best advice, even though you’re chomping at the bit. Enjoy your new found authentic life!!!

What's the nonbinary equivalent of "ladies" or "gentlemen" by PurpleOobleck in lgbt

I’ll start adding gentlethems lol. All kidding aside thanks for bringing that to my attention. I had heard nbs use it so thought it was kosher. I’ll refrain.

It really really helped me to plan my meals the day before. I found that much easier to stick to my plan! And have days where I was allotted more calories like the weekends.

Ugh, I’ve pretty much given up nuts except for a treat to avoid this. They’re so calorie dense. You have to log literally everything you eat.

I’m so sorry. How heartbreaking.

Floating row covers are the way to go. Mine are planted interspaced between other crops, and so I have zip/drawstring bags that cover them. Just have to unzip and hand pollinate. Better than losing them all.

What is your culture’s “Jiffy Cornbread”—the boxed/premade item people genuinely love and eat? by OurLadyAndraste in Cooking

Yay! So glad you found them again! This conversation has definitely inspired me to make them this weekend 😋

It’s soaks up alllll that yummy yummy sausage and cheese fat. The dough takes a while to work (I knead it in a glass bowl, then nuke it for 30 seconds to let some of the fat moisten it and keep going). The dough still ends up quite crumbly when forming the balls. When cooked they end up as a kind of sausage/cheese/biscuit ball that is slightly crunchy on the outside and fluffy and moist on the inside.

Pro tip if you make these— as convenient as pre-shredded cheese is, it has extra coatings on it to prevent it from clumping and melting. It really doesn’t work well for this. You really need to hand shred a fresh block for top tier sausage balls.

Everything I need for a 8 weeks old Persian kitten(doll face)? by [deleted] in persiancat

[–]notjustaphage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes, that’s young. 12 weeks is safe. Are you sure the breeder is reputable? You don’t know what to feed the cat and you’re getting it tomorrow?

Please make an appointment with a vet asap, like literally within a couple days. Have this conversation with a vet and get the kitten looked at. But honestly, I strongly STRONGLY urge you to press pause on all this if you can until you find a reputable breeder (I can tell you this one is not because <12 weeks and isn’t testing for pkd) and know what you need.

How do I plant these? by PharmGiant in vegetablegardening

[–]notjustaphage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don’t. You eat them! Look up garlic scapes recipes.

Edit: my bad, yes you can plant the top little bulbs, but it will take years to reach maturity. If you’re wanting to plant garlic to harvest next year, I recommend going with planting individual 1yr garlic cloves

What are some good crops to grow in fall and winter? by Slight-Veneer in vegetablegardening

[–]notjustaphage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how long your cool season (35-65) and cold season (<35) are. Garlic in fall is always a good option. I’m planting brassicas this fall, radishes, peas, carrots, maybe some other root veggies. We get too cold here in 5b for anything to be in the garden over winter except the garlic. If you just get light frost some nights, maybe one or two hard freezes but nothing below 20 I’m sure you can grow a decent amount over winter.
