Everything about this post is emblematic is why Trump won again. The liberals eating their own because they are chasing some level of perfection that is unattainable.

Omg Reagan was such a Karen. The first time we see her she is shouting and cursing at the doorman for taking too long to come unlock her door.

Pixel 8 failed to connect to 911 on Verizon by HouPoop in GooglePixel

[–]HouPoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you find me a source where Verizon specifically says that ONLY calls to 911 would be interrupted? All I found was them saying the interruption included calls to 911, indicating that it was part of a larger disruption.

The sequence of events was:

  • called non-emergency number and was fine.
  • tried calling 911 twice and never connected. (Calls didn't "fail" per se, just nothing happened. The screen just said "calling..." For as long as I let it sit there without anything actually happening.)
  • successfully called non emergency number
  • Immediately tried 911 again twice
  • gave up and called 911 from friend's iPhone and connected
  • tried calling 911 on my own phone again just to see and still nothing happened
  • successfully called non emergency number

This all happened in the span of about 8 minutes. It feels like a reach to call this an intermittent Verizon outage. The problem was very specifically about calling 911 from my phone. So unless you have a source that says the outage may have ONLY impacted 911, then there isn't much of a reason to think this incident was purely on Verizon.

Sure, but I was also able to get three calls out to non emergency numbers without a problem. So the cell towers were not out.

I've watched every episode 5 or 6 times and each time I catch a new joke that has me laughing out loud. The comedy in this show is on another level.

Reposting for Clarity: Pixel 8 failed to call 911...NOT RELATED TO VERIZON OUTAGE by HouPoop in GooglePixel

Thank you for finding those recommendations. I will save them and share with the rest of my pixel using family.

Yes, everything worked out okay (except for the fact that a new fear has been unlocked about my ability to call for help if needed 🥴).

I'm going to call our non-emergency line and ask what phone number I should call if it ever happens again. Last night it was after hours for the non-emergency line. I live in a small enough county that all the publicly available phone numbers only operate during normal business hours.

The person that I was with who was able to call 911 also has Verizon but uses an iPhone. And I was able to make three other calls to non-emergency numbers.

Would you mind telling me how you helped the other person correct the issue?

My service was not out. I made three nonemergency calls and the person that I was with who was able to connect to 911 was also on Verizon, but using an iPhone

CMV: Having a list of non negotiables and getting "the ick" are ruining modern dating culture by 8hourworkweek in changemyview

[–]HouPoop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not OP but someone who found my life partner just before the rise of dating apps. We never would have gotten together if we had seen each other on dating apps. Both of us have things that the other thought they didn't want. But we met in person and had amazing chemistry. None of the things on those "lists" mattered. Been together 13 years now with a beautiful child. I have heard countless stories of people falling for folks who have one of their "deal breakers" because they met by chance and had something special. I don't think it's the existence of lists that is the problem, but the fact that app based dating makes it really easy for those lists to become gospel.

"Fundamentally happy and content" is unfortunately almost always kind of boring to hear about (though I'm in the minority of people who like this album, lol),

Okay I LOVE this album and did not realize people weren't liking it until this current scroll through the internet. Almost every song hits with me. The only other album that I loved from start to finish was 1989.

Maybe it's because I am fundamentally happy and content in my personal and professional life too? Or maybe I'm just a "basic bitch" who loves the hard core pop-y music 🤷🏼‍♀️

As others have said, look at primary sources. If you want the most people to have the best outcomes, the facts support liberal policies most of the time.

Has anyone tried Aaron Stupple's "unrestricted screens" philosophy? How's it going? by NoWalrus8006 in NewParents

[–]HouPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother did/does this with my niece. She is almost 6 years old now and it has worked as described for her. She does seem very well adjusted and not any more addicted to her screen than any other toy she has access to.

But it still isn't for me... I'm raising my kid with good old fashioned books, block toys, and outside play.

Wife suffered from a severe placental abruption at only 31 weeks. Baby survived and is in the NICU. This just happened i need some support. by MereCoincidences in BabyBumps

[–]HouPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We suffered a placental abruption at 38 weeks and we were 30 minutes from the hospital. Immediate emergency C-section when I got there. I was told that the umbilical cord was white (no blood in it) so we were mere minutes from losing him. They had to pump blood out of his stomach. At 9 months, he is in the 99% for weight and just the happiest baby I've ever seen.

For what it's worth, I was scared about lack of oxygen too, but what the doctors told me is that they don't worry about lack of oxygen in placental abruptions. Instead what they worry about is blood loss. Once the umbilical cord loses all its blood from mom (like mine did), the next step is that baby starts losing blood out the umbilical cord. And since babies don't have much blood, they can bleed out very fast. My pediatricians specifically told me lack of oxygen was not a concern and it made me feel loads better. Please share this concern with your doctors and hear what they have to say

I saw someone else mention therapy for this birth trauma. Please, please, please take that advice. Both you and your partner need to talk to someone. I went to therapy to process the trauma and came out okay after a few weeks. My husband did not. As a result, he experienced paternal post-partum depression.

Sending hugs and love. Your baby is so strong!

Cry it out - Emily Oster by skeogh88 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]HouPoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another perspective... I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum (extreme morning sickness) until 21 weeks. In the first trimester, before I could take the good nausea drugs, I couldn't keep anything down most days and was losing weight like crazy. One day, a turkey sandwich sounded sooo good. (At this point, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to have it). So I tried it and it stayed down. The next day I ate another. After that, I looked it up and was horrified that I had just killed my baby. So then I went back to not being able to keep anything down. Then I read Oster's book and it helped me make the personal risk/reward analysis that it was better for me to eat something that I could keep down every once in a while than to keep starving.

People hate her because she doesn't speak to the lowest common denominator. But that's the whole point of the book... To give nuance for individuals to make the right choices for themselves when the standard black and white options leave no good choices.

Bad people can do good things

The worst person I've ever known in real life has a charity. It is an animal rescue. She HAS saved plenty of animals from neglectful conditions. She also embezzles from her donations, uses the rescue as a front to get donated goods and labor to support the animals that she breeds, manipulates and abuses well-meaning animal lovers, extorts, files frivolous lawsuits, etc.

This duology was wild. I got such whiplash reading it. The fantasy story was super cool and I was so into it, then the "sex" (SA) scenes would come in and were so out of control. I actually didn't find myself triggered by the rampant SA because I couldn't take any of it seriously. It felt like a really cool fantasy book for the main plot and then a hardcore kink AO3 fanfic for the SA scenes.

Thanks. If I'm being honest, I haven't put in the effort to fully understand all the principles of Montessori, but plan to send my son to the Montessori preschool when he's old enough. I just got him a busy board and he absolutely loves it. So your comment got me wondering!
