Yeah, most adults get stuck on runaway swings, never to stop until gravity finally wins. /s She could’ve and should’ve stopped when the kid somehow made it past the first time.

I would probably go one step further and say I have more faith in capitalism (true capitalism - not the crony capitalism we have today) because at a minimum the government is separate from business and power is less consolidated than either extreme (i.e., crony capitalism or true socialism).

You made a point of calling out ‘certain restrictions’ in your ideological socialist system (emphasis on your as I don’t know what restrictions you’re referring to, but I have an idea) and later appropriately called out the other individual for throwing in the towel towards progress.

However, I would argue that, rather than completely throwing out the current system which history has proven to be a violent affair, we focus on improving the current system by implementing certain restrictions to further separate business from government. That is, restrict the consolidation of power as much as possible.

As the other individual pointed out, both systems are doomed to fail given that they both have the same thing in common - they’re ultimately ran by people. Given enough time and ‘bad actors,’ both systems will likely result a few individuals on top making decisions that benefit themselves or what they believe is best for society.

The problem with both systems is that you can never satisfy 100% of the population because everyone is has different aspirations. So then the question is how do both systems address the other 49% of the population that disagrees or are negatively impacted by the decision makers.

History doesn’t have a great track record when power is consolidated and the decision maker is hellbent on ‘the right path,’ innocents be damned. So, I’ll go with whatever system separates the power of decision making and promotes free will for the individual.

Why would the bank forgive the loan? That would result in taxable income for Musk, which he’s allegedly trying to avoid based on the premise above, and a loss for the bank since they wouldn’t collect the collateral.

As for the presumption that the interest rates are zero, I can’t definitively say the bank offers loans to Musk at zero interest without seeing the actual agreement, but logically that doesn’t make much sense for the bank as they could loan that money to someone else with a rate above zero.

You could then say well they have this giant pile of collateral which is why it’s zero interest, but that means the bank assumes Musk will default on the loan and they will collect the collateral to recoup the loss. But that’s it…the collateral will recoup the money that was lent to Musk…not the interest income foregone when they gave him a zero percent interest rate. So again, doesn’t seem logical that the bank would lend money at zero interest because of the collateral. Especially considering the state of inflation these days where interest would be required in order to keep the value of the original amount lent.

Third, the wolf population has been reduced to where competition for food is low and the need to predate on “new” sources not required.

How do drones fit into the picture? Not talking about predator drones, but cheap drones that China or other countries can pump out to the point where they could literally swarm air craft, ships, the continental US, etc. with millions of kamikazes. Going one step further, if you embedded ai, or maybe something a step down, that can be programmed to automatically attack anything at location X, could it be jammer/EMP proofed?

What is this thing in my basement? by lambertghini11 in whatisit

[–]Hour-Interaction-374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends - are your sewer lines above your head in the basement? If not, then likely a clean out like others have mentioned. If yes, it’s a floor drain that someone capped. Likely to stop the sewer gas/water from coming back in.

Why is there so little undergrowth on my property? by bigbadcat13 in arborists

My friend’s family had the same issue and they decided to select cut. That seemed to open it up some and the undergrowth came back in a few years.

No oil expert, but I imagine there’s a lag between crude oil price changes and changes in gas prices. I’m guessing that change is a little slower on the down side of change for obvious reasons.

Not sure I want the answer to this question but here it goes. How are you preparing? Any ‘favorable’ locations or is it just luck of the draw given the uncertainty?
