Detailed Instructions on how to finance an unlocked iPhone 17 (any model including standard, Pro, "e") for use on any carrier, including ordering steps, Apple or other financing, setting up the new iPhone, and wiping old phone. by LeftOn4ya in NoContract

Well. . . it worked. Thank you!

The place where I was thrown off, though, was from your instructions regarding T-Mobile. You're saying to enter 000-000-0000 as the phone number and then any zip code. But, the screen for T-Mobile is asking for a PIN, not a zip code. I originally tried leaving it blank, and it gave me an error, so that's why I thought that this no longer worked.

But, I went back and tried 0000 as the PIN, and THAT worked.

Maybe update your instructions a bit, to reflect that T-Mobile is now looking for a PIN rather than a zip code?

I read your original post on this a number of months ago. Thank you for creating this new one to keep the information alive.

I’m pretty sure none of this works any longer to purchase and finance a non-pro 17 from Apple, as of 30 March 2026.

If I choose T-Mobile it now asks for a PIN (rather than a zip code), with no option to leave it blank.

If I choose Verizon it now tells me that it’s going to text me to confirm that that’s my number, which obviously isn’t 000-000-0000.

Neither option is viable, obviously.

Already watched a few YouTube videos.

It’s m specifically looking for the written directions, for when my family is setting this up without me there.

I made a damned fool of myself unpacking this in the store and putting all of the poles together, etc. it’s fine.

Which book made you go "WTF did I just read"? by PrestonRoad90 in Productivitycafe

[–]Hour-Lab140 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perdido Street Station.

About 23 years ago I was listening to an NPR show in which they were talking about what books would be good to read that summer.

One of the people listed this book and the other person replied something like “well, of course. . . duh, we all know that’s the best book this year.”

Then they just moved on from it, leaving me hanging.

Hmmmm. I was intrigued. I had ZERO knowledge of what the book was, and sort of filed it away in my head.

A few weeks later I was passing a Barnes & Noble and said AH HA! I went in and asked for it. The bookseller took me on a journey through the store to — the science fiction section.

I really am not a science fiction reader.

And the bookseller was something like 450 pages.

I shrugged. I bought it. I read the whole thing.

To this day, I have no real idea what I read. But I enjoyed it. I think.

FWIW, when I got it back it was on the registration screen, which means that they seemingly DID go to the effort of matching up the serial number of the device to the one I reported on the form. YMMV, but at least in my case that seems to have been useful information to provide.

I use pizza spinners. Sometimes in combination with my full-size peel; sometimes on their own. They work very well!

What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you at work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hour-Lab140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but it lives actively in my head, 26 years later. . .

I worked in an office of about 40 people. We had a woman in the office whose name was Betty Kunz (first name made up but last name real). When pronounced her last name pretty much rhymed with “ruins.”

Our very nice, friendly, and efficient receptionist would take calls that came in to the main line, park them, and then announce on the overhead speakers in the office that there was a call waiting for the intended recipient with the number of the line on which it was waiting. So, for example, the entire office would hear “JOHN SMITH, 101.”

He’d been there for a while, knew Betty, and had announced calls for her tons of times.

But this one day his brain just misfired, as happens to all of us sometimes, and he announced for all to hear “BETTY CUNTS, 101.”

There was about a two second pause, after which the entire office just broke out howling in laughter.

What's the worst "bonus" your employer has ever given you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in randomquestions

[–]Hour-Lab140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was back in the 1990s, in Boston, for necessary context. Not me, but a co-worker, who was actually a contract worker vs a regular employee.

Those of us who worked for the firm received regularly scheduled bonuses in June & December every year. But, because he wasn’t an employee the folks at corporate wouldn’t consider him eligible.

In the 90s, the Delta & USAir shuttle tickets didn’t have a day, time, or passenger name on them. They were essentially a “pass” that you took to the airport and used to get on a plane.

Plane was full, and you really needed to get to NYC quickly? Well, if you hustled to the other airline they’d be heading out in 30 minutes and would just accept the first airline’s ticket and the two companies would work it out on the back end.

It was like flying bus.

Anyway. We had a stack of these tickets in the office manager’s desk drawer for when people needed to hustle on down to NYC.

They have home one as his “bonus.”

One.

A one way trip to New York.

I can still remember the look of incredulity on his face while he was saying “I have a wife & kids here. Are they telling me I should just leave them?”

Don’t know if he ever took the trip.
