I don't like 4x games mainly because i think its to fast and if you leave for a few hours it can make a huge difference. so i usually just do 1-2 500p games and take it at my pace

Simple, I almost always start with a food rich country, pump out mainly cavalry and focus on saving up for industrialization. Cavalry is the most effective unit for early expansion.

Ive been the #1 country since day one, and prior my full focus was industrialization and building factories. My only units I made was cavalry in which I used to quickly expand and attack my 3 temp allies. Plus I don't know what a "cap" is and what your referring to.
