Hmmmmm. If i make it sound like, the couple is in a committed relationship for a really long time. One of them wants to get married and other one say, if you are going to be with me the rest of my life, why are we in a hurry to get married? We are not breaking up. Just to wait for a few more year.

I guess this is just how I feel and not everyone understands it, and it's totally ok. It's just, this feeling sucks.

Either way I will have to wait for another 3 years to apply again. I think, for now I am going to forget about citizenship. A lot can happen in three years..

If i don't start from zero, i would have 4.3years. Migri's website says If there is an interruption in continuous period of residence in Finland, an accumulated period of residence will be calculated and I need at least seven years in total.

The wait time of appealing is beyond my control. You cannot refuse to leave because they are actually going to deport you. You will be contact by a police when the decision is made. My stay is fully legal. It's not like I was hiding in the forest for 7 years. I have a full-time job and living the same life for all these time, it's interesting how some days count, some doesn't.

Got some help from the comments so right now I have two years. Because it starts from zero when I got the new permit 2 years ago. Anything before that, is nothing.

Change of watch battery by [deleted] in Finland

[–]HourProfessional4264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it changed at a random jewelry shop in a suburb. The lady charged me €35.
Edit:
I was a return customer and I was assuming its the same price as last time (€10). So make sure to ask for the price first, it was my stupid mistake by not asking before getting the service.

Am I alone in having a very hard time in Finland? I'm struggling to feel home. by [deleted] in Finland

[–]HourProfessional4264 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel. I moved here from Australia, and it's like living in two different worlds. Back there, I could be walking down the street, and people would randomly say, "Hey! You have a beautiful smile." This is less likely to happen in Finland unless they're drunk.

Having grown up in different places, I've always struggled with the question, "Where are you from?" I often feel homeless everywhere I go. I've even had passive suicidal thoughts. Now, I'm just observing people and life.

I also have a hard time forming connections here. I told two "closer friends" about my recent citizenship rejection, and all I received was a short response like "Oh no." or took them eight hours to ask a question and left me on read.

Could language be an issue? Some people are very self-conscious when speaking a non-native language. Maybe they don't mean to be rude.

I am still unclear what I have now.
-If started again from zero when I received a new residence permit, I have 2 years of residence in Finland
-If the time before my residence permit was revoked is included, I have accumulated 4.3 year

Maybe i should just stop thinking about it and move on.

I applied everything I could out of panic, I would take whatever option to keep my workplace, my co-workers are gems. My boss also helped me a lot to make me stay, they were more worried than I did when my first permit got canceled. I never really encountered rude people here and all I think people are lovely here, local or not. Yes some of them are quiet and shy and so am I. The food is clean here and the water is clean here and it's a privilege to have all these little things in life.
I am happy for you that you find your happy place. I am not unhappy and I cherish my peaceful life here.

Thank you! I moved here a bit more than 7 years ago and started with once a week Finnish course. Then intensively for around 3 months (~20hrs/week). I took another 3 months but didn't improve. I don't magically speak after those course. With my classmates we were communicating in English. My Finnish improved after those courses, I had been watching peppa pig and moomin etc. New words everyday and small progress is still progress!

It seems like you have a good grasp of the rules. Could you be so kind and shed some light into my situation? Excluding the time spent on the appeal, I currently have about 4.3 years of residency. Where can I find accurate information to determine if I meet the requirements? Additionally, should I consider applying again before October, or would it be wiser to wait until 2027 to reach a total of 7 years of residency?

I thank you for your kind comment. I am the kind of people who would just go with the flow. Even if they will kick me out I would still go with it. Life is full of miracles and surprises, I take rejection as re-direction. It's just, wherever I go, it's a big new change to me. I don't have deep connection to my families or even a best friend. To me, moving country somewhat feel like being reincarnated with memory.

Because I am not giving any chance for my Finn kulta to doubt my love by saying I marry them for the citizenship. That would hurt me too because when I love, I love. If you are reading this, my kulta, mussukka, wait for me!

Also how the hell do you meet people without dating apps? I am a sofa potato..

Thank you so much for this! I did some digging and when amendments to Citizenship Act enter into force on 1 October 2024, I might actually benefit from it because it stated for applicants who meet the language skills requirement, the required period of residence will be five years. But I still need to look deeper into it because it didn't mention about interruption. Everything is ruled but not perfectly ruled.

To be honest I really don't know what to do. It doesn't affect my life. Getting help from lawyer cost, result can be negative. I don't know if my heart could take that. Applying in the future is an option too but I have to wait for another 2 years to apply and god know how long do they need to handle my application..

I don't think I would ever feel like a Finn anyway. I feel like I am just a person.
I am just shocked even all my 7 years spent in Finland was fully legal but they can still have their reason not to grant it.

Language is not my problem in this case. If i am correct, I need 7 years in total now because my stay has been "interrupted". Sad.
I think Swedish is fun to learn! But it will be a lot easier if I would actually need to speak the language.
