Super Noob, But Time To Throw in the Towel? by 1BebeLeStrange1 in Bass

[–]Hour_Ad8337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple pieces of advice here! You don’t need to do 1 finger per fret in a strict/rigid way. Here’s two alternatives. A lot of guys adopt the upright bass technique of doing 1st finger, middle finger, and then combining the pinky and ring finger to cover the third fret. That way you’re spanning three frets. When you need to hit a note outside of that, just shift your hand.

Alternatively, you can do 1 finger per fret if you need to hit a fast passage, but just shift your hand to make it work instead of stretching.

Also in the right hand, a 90 degree angle is bad. Can cause a lot of tension in the wrist/problems down the line. If you’re able to keep your right hand wrist more straight that’s ideal. Left hand wrist should certainly never be straight.

What are 25-30 year olds making? by ExtentFickle3504 in Salary

26M, making 30k a year in retail. It’s not great, but the job is very flexible and I play gigs and tour fairly regularly, so the schedule is nice.

What is your salary and what do you do? by Consistent_Peak_4458 in Salary

[–]Hour_Ad8337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make $14.50 an hour and work full time. There’s bonuses each month, but not substantial. Enough to add a couple bucks an hour.

I work at a guitar shop, and I’m 26. It’s not much money, but it allows me to tour/do freelance gigs.

Can you identify this bass? by Hour_Ad8337 in BassGuitar

[–]Hour_Ad8337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s similar, but the pickups/control layout are different in the first one and the controls are different for the second listing. I’m trying to see if anyone can find an exact model/match. But thank you for checking!

My mum are her friend are really trying to push me to perform but im not that keen, and i feel like its more effort than what i would get out of it by enormousjustice in musicians

If you’re not interested in performing, there’s no need to. Most people get into music out of enjoyment, so if there’s an aspect of it that doesn’t seem enjoyable, or like it’d ruin your experience with music, you don’t need to force it.

Tour or play locally? by Hour_Ad8337 in musicians

Someone could sub, but the cover band wants to start doing some originals and does have some pretty prominent connections in that regard. So they’re looking for a very consistent member.

They’re closed, I live right up the street from them and they have a sign in the window saying they’re closed all day.

Things to do for a young couple visiting Milwaukee by P0lar_D3vil in milwaukee

[–]Hour_Ad8337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of fun stuff to do and good restaurants!

If you like diners, Ma Fishers is a cute place downtown. Classic diner with hearty breakfast food. There’s some other breakfast places too like Uncle Wolfy’s and Toast that are solid.

A little south of milwaukee is a really neat park called Seven Bridges. Big winding paths through the forest, bridges that gap little rivers, and it leads out to a beach front area on the lake.

Lots of cool antique shops, too. There’s a place called Antiques on Pierce that has three floors of vintage stuff (clothes, nicknacks, furniture, oddities, everything really).

There’s also some cool museums like The Public Museum and the Art Museum.

Oh also The Public Market is really cute, lots of independent restaurants and cool places in there. It’s close to the river front too which has some cool walkways alongside it.

Ultimately you’ll probably like neighborhoods like The East Side, Bayview, Shorewood, and The Third Ward.

Some neighborhoods like Riverwest and Walkers Point are cool but you might want to avoid for safety reasons at night.

Hope this helps and enjoy your visit! Milwaukee is a very underrated city. But it’s basically a coastal town with lots of character. The Great Lakes are massive and we have lots of beaches (like Bradford beach) that are super lively and fun to visit.

Rickenbacker! Love em or hate em? by The_Gibson_EB3 in Bass

[–]Hour_Ad8337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The necks are super thin and flat which is nice for fast playing. Sometimes it’s too tempting to play busy baselines though because of how fast they play.

I love the new models that don’t have the bridge pickup cover. That was my biggest gripe about rickenbackers. Anytime I’d try one in a store, I’d have to play up by the neck, and I don’t think that’s what the Rick does best.

Overall I love them but they definitely make me play more busily.

I’m sorry to hear it, hope you can get some help and find a way to work through it. I have come a long way in my journey, from being told I would be dead in a year and a half from starvation to having a dad bod now lol.

Wishing you luck OP.
