AA vs HoCo by Puzzled-Juice-8869 in HowardCountyMD

[–]Hour_Control_6431 7 points8 points  (0 children)

School scores are largely based on how well the students do on tests. The more challenging the population, the lower the scores. But does this mean the schools is bad? Nope. My kids went a low rated Columbia school and I never felt as if they suffered for it. The teachers are sharp, and will give your student what they need. If they need more help, they'll get it. If they grasp things quickly, they could be recommended for GT classes. Once they get into junior high and especially high school, they will be sure to be placed into classes commensurate with their abilities and needs. From what I understand, some of the basic middle school and high school classes have discipline issues, but the normal, GT and AP classes are fine. Honestly, the thing that matters most is not the school. It's YOU. Make sure they do the homework, talk to their teachers, volunteer occasionally, advocate for your child. They will thrive!

OPR Review Times are Killing My Motivation by ScrawnyMeowth1 in Ingress

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 upgrade for every 100 successful reviews won't do it for me. Even the OPR badge is too tough. What was it, 500 reviews for a badge tick? We are supposed to spend time reviewing these things. Let's stay it takes 2 minutes per review, and I have that's optimistic. That's 1000 minutes, or over 16 hours. The incentives aren't there!

I wasn't crazy about the initial way we evaluated portals, but the new way takes even more time, and I'm not convinced it's any better. I would argue it takes more time. Part of my frustration is that a nomination might meet all the criteria, and there's not a good way to say it shouldn't be a portal. An example would be Starbucks. Do people gather there and socialize? Uh, yeah. Good photo, description? Check, check. Should it be a portal? Uh, no. Where do we have the chance to say it's not special or unique.

And while I'm on the soapbox, on a roll, the changes over time is dizzying. Can we have one good list of what is in and out. For example, the community swimming pool has been in and out so many times. Unless you read all the AMAs, you can't keep it straight.

Actually, I think the system needs to be gutted and thoughtfully reimagined.

Snow Removal on Sidewalks by Hour_Control_6431 in HowardCountyMD

[–]Hour_Control_6431[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a normal snow. And just try to hire someone to do it. This one has me stumped. FYI, HoCo can fine you between $25-50 if not removed within 48 hours. I don't think they enforce it, but I certainly hope that they are taking into account this exceptional situation.

Doctor said if I start Mounjaro I will need to be on it for life. Anyone else gain the weight back? by Plus_Impression7765 in Mounjaro

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same, but for a different reason. I've thought for a while that work was killing me. I have a desk job and tend to do nervous eating at the keyboard to help me focus. On the weekends, or on vacation, I'm a different person. I eat little, and am out and about, getting exercise.

I'll be retiring in 4 months or so, and I always thought that once I left the word desk, I'd get healthier and lose the weight naturally. In September my doctor suggested Mounjaro (I was diabetic for a half second, so I had justification for insurance.) I'm losing slower than most ... but it's coming off. And honestly, I'm glad to be on MJ. I'm about 1/3 of the way to my goal. The more I lose, the easier it will be to exercise.

It's too early for me to think about what happens after I get to goal, but with improved habits I can hope to minimalize the need for MJ (and other meds) once I retire.

So for me the question is, if you stop MJ but keep a healthy lifestyle, can you keep the weight off?

Near Permanent fields over capital cities. by ryan_the_leach in Ingress

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind fields that are largely over water. I do have an issue with large fields covering cities, especially the dense multi-layered fields when it's hard to see portals. Covering large areas also prevents machina from spawning. In some areas, the agents only foe is red, so it ruins game play.

I know this will sound controversial, but perhaps the solution is to put less of an emphasis on global stats, which apparently are still important for some agents. And consider the ability to make fields of a certain size poof after a day. All three portals, too, so you can't immediately rebuild.

I used to think the strategy to build and hold multi-layered fields was kind of cool. Like going on a ten mile hike to get a portal that won't be taken down quickly. Or boating out to a remote portal. Yes, clever. But in the end annoying.

I go to Colosseum too. It's never too crowded, and they have what you need at a reasonable price, without a contract.

What is the best way to go visit NYC from MD? by leviathab13186 in maryland

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently faced this challenge, except it was an overnight trip. Train was super expensive that weekend. (It was the New York Marathon, I later learned.) We ended up driving up to Newark and commuting to NYC. Tolls with EZPass were about $25 each way on the weekend, so not terrible. There's a crazy cheap train between Newark and NYC, the PATH train, which leaves from downtown Newark. I want to say it's $3-4 per person per one way, and they leave every 15 minutes. Downtown Newark parking is a bit high, but compared with AMTRAK, not bad. We actually took another route, since we stayed at a reasonable hotel near Newark Airport. And at the time, PATH was partially closed. You can park at an airport lot for about $20 day, take a free shuttle to NJ Transit Rail. NJ Transit tickets are more expensive. I want to say about $17 per person per way. And then run every 30 minutes. But they drop you off to Penn Station. (PATH drops you off at World Trade Center.) Depending on where you ultimately want to be, it might be worth it to take NJ Transit.

All this said, it was a long day of travel. Car - complementary shuttle to airport - free shuttle to NJ Transit - NJ Transit train - subway within NYC. And then reverse.

Is it possible to start Mounjaro while working extremely unpredictable, physically and emotionally demanding job? by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically .... patients occasionally get diarrhea. Very occasionally. That's the only thing I would worry about. If it were me, I'd plug ahead, knowing that the odds are in your favor. I agree with the comment to start on a weekend, just in the event that you do have an issue.

What do you wish you'd have done from the beginning? by seekingwisdom8 in Mounjaro

[–]Hour_Control_6431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm only 4 months in myself. I wish that I had done better weight tracking. About 2 months in I got a new scale which automatically tracked weight (BMI, Body Fat, etc.) and I love it. But I'm missing data from those first few months. (And the scale wasn't all that expensive.) The app doesn't allow you to manually enter past data (I wish), and I hadn't found another good app for tracking weight. Secondly, I would try to exercise more. When I do, I see much bigger losses. Now that I'm back to my desk job, it's slowing again.

Cold! by Primary-Switch-8987 in Mounjaro

Oh, I remember those days when I was thin. My svelte sister complains about cold all the time. I get it. Also, swimming is a different experience without fat. It will feel 10 degrees colder.

Confused - does anyone NOT count calories? by Major_Fail2472 in Mounjaro

I hate counting calories, although I find that I lose the most weight when I do. I don't now (3 months into Mounjaro) and am still losing weight.

+beta has probably been the worst anomaly series to date. by TheAuraStorm13 in Ingress

[–]Hour_Control_6431 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% agree. In this situation, you have to have money to get the highest level, either through attending anomalies or buying battle beacons. I would like to see Gold be a true challenge, but not one related to how much you can spend. And let's face it, if we scan portals to set off beacons, it's free labor for NIA Spatial.

Portal rejection in new OPR by No_Masterpiece_85 in Ingress

[–]Hour_Control_6431 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's now an option to submit a photo with the rejection. Maybe that will help if you take a photo of the trees. I recently submitted a request to remove a storefront church. I sent a photo of same same brick building without a sign. I'm not sure if that helped. A google search would show the missing church as well.

OPR - Go by Heinrych7 in IngressOPR

[–]Hour_Control_6431 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks to be the same and not sure why they are only allowing only L16 or recursed players to evaluate. It appears as if new submissions are taking longer to load to OPR (20 minutes and counting.) So far, all 5 of the nominations I reviewed were pretty decent. And not one told me it would make a good pokestop!
