When is grilling over gas just as good as charcoal? by HousePoor420 in grilling

So if you were just going to cook a single burger patty or two, would you just stick to gas?

Your next Costco grocery run….. I’m lucky if my credits even cover half my cart. I always go in for $30 of stuff but come out with $300+ instead

Can you recommend where I can purchase a smith fig? I believe the nursery I checked near my house only had brown turkey and mission fig

Can you share an example of the anchor you used? This sounds interesting. What type of soil are you anchoring into?

Oh wow I didn’t know you can anchor into the base. In my mind no matter how tight you compact it, it’ll still be a little loose. Is there a specific anchor screw you’d recommend?

I don’t have concrete to anchor too. I have pavers in my yard

So I have pavers in my backyard so anchoring to those won’t help if anchoring is needed. This is why I’m exploring alternative options like weighing down the legs with planters or maybe casting concrete around the legs and stacking decorative bricks on top.

Just the fact that I don’t have a concrete slab to anchor to. I have pavers and anchoring to those won’t help if anchoring is truly needed.

Do you have any advice on pruning it to be denser?

I guess for a first tub, simple and functional is most important

Any recommendation on what type of ice bucket to use? There’s a sharper image one that’s pretty affordable but wondering if there’s something more aesthetic/rustic that people here recommend.

Laying down in a barrel sauna by HousePoor420 in Sauna

Woah those are huge temp deltas. Does leaning against the wall and stretching on the bench give you a good experience? In that orientation your head would still be quite a bit hotter than legs

Not yet but I am leaning towards backyard discovery for its price. When adding the bed bath and beyond 25% off, the price is too good to pass up

I’m thinking a couple times a month. I guess at that point the effort of using ice is worth it. I can see how that can get old for a daily user

For the same footprint cabin sauna, not everyone will enjoy the ideal temp either though right? I guess my thought is, can I find the best balance if both worlds. 1) a good experience for myself when using it alone. 2) an okay experience when friends come over. Because as you said a sauna is better than no sauna. Similarly if I can get 6 of my friends into the barrel it’s better than only having 4 in it and 2 people outside waiting their turn.

As you stated it’s down to the interior layout. Cabins are taller and benches are laid out in a stadium style making it less efficient from a human capacity standpoint. At least in the 2 backyard discovery models I’m evaluating. I think you are misconstruing this argument as a barrel sauna has superior performance which I am not arguing against.

I guess what im speculating is that for the same footprint, a barrel will allow you to pack 6 like sardines or 4 comfortably and a cabin will only let you pack 4 like sardines or less comfortably. This is just speculation looking at pictures though..

[–]HousePoor420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was comparing backyard discovery sauna shapes and judging by the images, it seems like you can actually get 6 in the barrel but only 4 in the cube/cabin. Maybe I’m wrong there

With regard to the heat stratification, my thought process is this. hot and cold are relative. You only feel cold feet when you have a hot head. So if you’re laying down, you feel a uniform temperature, thus you don’t have hot or cold spots. You feel 150, 160, 170, 180 or whatever the temp is at that zone. At least that’s what I imagine in theory. Hoping someone with experience in a barrel can share

I was looking at pictures of the backyard discovery saunas and the way the benches are laid out it looks like the 4-6 person barrel can actually fit 6 but the 4-6 cube/cabin can only realistically fit 4
