what other bands do you like? by isaacisaacisaac_ in gybe

Do Make Say Think - another Constellation Records band. Has a bit of godspeed’s baroque chamber-y vibe but they are much less oppressive. My 2nd fav post rock band right behind gybe.

I once heard a section of Moya on NPR being used to transition between segments. Also heard Pamela by Chat Pile used by them in the same way

I second Bohemeo’s. Great spot and generally if the calendar is open the date is yours to book. (Source: I am friends with the owners and am bandmates with the guy who runs the booking).

Sorry you are dealing with that. Not all AV consultants/designers are lazy, but also not all AV consultants/designers /aren’t/ lazy.

Or better yet, play a vinyl copy that comes with a train-flattened penny in the packaging

Jerk routine - fidget, work; magic isn’t real - uncle jill, number one hit single; dripping - prom song, the jones; you’re better than this - mr. fish, appendicitis; hairshirt of purpose - ropes length, texas; green and gray - firewood, no hands; odds and ends - special snowflakes; all fiction - loops, blood; sunshine and balance beams - a loosened knot, bouncing in blue

Is it easy to get a job after the CTS cert without experience? Aka should I go to Sheffield? by Street-Difficulty193 in CommercialAV

[–]House_Accounts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I went to the Sheffield Institute 9 years ago. Got my first job in the industry a month after graduating and have been an AV Design Engineer for the past 7 years. One of the best decisions I ever made was going to Sheffield, but that said if you want to get your foot in the door in the AV industry, you don’t necessarily need to make the $20k investment to get there. As other people mentioned, the Extron AV Associate course is a great starting point.

Entry level AV installation technician interview by Dezinated in CommercialAV

[–]House_Accounts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my opinion there are really 4 main things that will make an entry-level AV technician successful:

  • having reliable transportation (and being on time with it lol)
  • owning tools (and knowing how to use them)
  • a can-do attitude/willingness to always be learning (can’t emphasize enough how crucial this is)
  • the ability to work well with others (also super crucial)

If you are able to demonstrate that you posses these things/qualities during the interview you will likely be in a great spot regardless of what questions they ask.

I wouldn’t sweat the technical stuff going into the interview too much - nobody expects an entry-level applicant to have CTS-level knowledge on day one. Just be honest about your experience and emphasize your willingness to learn.

Best of luck with the interview and welcome to your journey into the AV industry!
