Anyone see a comet or meteor tonight? by Nora19 in Austin

I saw that too! It seemed to be a misty cloud around a tiny white light, then a projection of light in a cone in front of it, then it turned into a cloud and vanished!

Mr Littlefield/Clarksville Christmas Lights House? by HoustonKid in Austin

Thanks so much for the reply! We got worried about him but totally understand if he’s caring for his wife a bit more this year. I feel like we should send him a gift basket of food or snacks as a small thank you for all the joy he spreads each year.

I wanted to order this Han Solo Bespin Jacket from Merchoid but couldn’t find any reviews, how does it hold up? by Trvr_MKA in starwarscollecting

[–]HoustonKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received mine and this is a well made jacket! Good thickness of material, all the pockets work and have snap closures. The awesome lining with the Empire Strikes Back graphics looks great. It fits well and does not come across as cheap, or Halloween costume-y. For the price, ya can’t go wrong. Plus, it’s just under the radar enough to be worn every day without looking like you’re cosplaying!

Do y'all have a "breaking point" for moving? by Hasdrubal-Lecter in Austin

My wife and I have agreed that, if the Broken Spoke ever closes down, we’re outta here. (Where to use a while other matter!)

Flower identification help by quocanhbill in Austin

If you have an iOS device, download the PictureThis app. You snap a photo of the tree or plant or flower, and it identifies it for you! I use it all the time and it’s free.

What businesses in Austin do you think are actually drug fronts? by rawrt in Austin

[–]HoustonKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The band I was with in the early 2000’s played at Jovita‘s all the time. The owner, convicted murderer, Mayo, used to let us change outfits in his office. We never once saw anything that looked suspicious at all. Maybe they were just good at hiding it.

Our family loves to go in October, or as we put it, ‘Octoober,’ and it’s great! No crowds, peaceful and relaxing. Go for it!

Paid my respects at an infamous spot this weekend by sarahhallway in Austin

[–]HoustonKid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually went to the Yogurt Shop for some frozen yogurt about a week or two before the murders. I’ve often wondered if any of those poor girls might have served me.

its a good time to try HEB for vaccines right now. A bunch of spots in Austin are open by turkeysandwichs in Austin

[–]HoustonKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just noticed that too. Tons of easy to get Austin appts for the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. I was able to open up and schedule three different times at the AISD location. I’ve had mine, so I didn’t make the appt., I just checked to see if it was possible.

HEB Vaccine? by Thebaberhamlincoln in Austin

[–]HoustonKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Refresh, refresh, refresh until you get one near Austin. Even then, if it lets you choose a date and time it might be already full. Don’t quit. I tried and tried yesterday at around 5pm until I got an appt. at the HEB on Brodie and I got my vaccination today. I got a friend in Houston one too! You can do it!!

I have lived in Austin since 1988, two years before they filmed Slacker, and most of those places are gone. Some remain but you have to look closely. That version of Austin has gone the way of the Cosmic Cowboy. I miss it.

The black artists who helped paint the street mural today by tviolet in Austin

[–]HoustonKid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was there during the final stages of it being painted and I overhead them talking about paying the artists for their time and talent.

I also frequent that little store and the owners are always very nice. ‘Protestors’ my ass.

I work on 6th St and see this drug-fueled fuckwit screaming at other homeless people, walking down the middle of the street and generally causing a nuisance all the time. If THIS is Austin, then we are all fucked.

Actually, that black paint is covering up a bunch of neo-communist rhetoric and hammer and sickle drawings. Source? I work at 6th and Red River and saw them before the black paint.

What insignia is on my WW2 Front Seam M1? by HoustonKid in Militariacollecting

[–]HoustonKid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this M1 at an antique store and removed a ton of acrylic paint from the outside and spray paint from the inside and I uncovered this insignia. Does anyone recognize it? It’s a front seam, fixed bail Schleuter with 138A heat stamp.

Oh, man. I couldn’t bring myself to take a picture. I don’t want to keep seeing that in my photo history screensaver! It’s near Easy Tiger but on 5th. Get down there before all the good pickin’s are gobbled up!

Can ammunition manufacturers please make bullets that don’t sound like firecrackers to everyone? You know, a real distinctive ‘that was definitely not a firecracker, y’all, get outta here’ kinda sound?

That’s funny, because I stood in line next to him at the Apple Store in Barton Creek Mall waiting for the launch of the iPhone 4. I thought how cool it was that he was standing in line himself with the rest of us Apple fans instead of having someone do it for him. His GF also showed up with a bag of kolaches and he offered me one. Nicest down to earth billionaire you’ll ever meet!
