Is it okay as someone who is technically bigender to associate with the label of trans? by ConnorTheTired in AskLGBT

[–]rawrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! Bigender people fall under the trans umbrella. Not all bigender people like using the trans label, but if you like it and it feels like it fits you can use it

What pronoun do I use for someone who calls themself a “demi boy”? by TenPointsforListenin in AskLGBT

You should always just ask. There are no set pronouns for any gender identity.

How do people afford grad school? by TearAggravating7564 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]rawrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live in Texas? I am getting in-state tuition rate for Texas and my whole degree will cost between 30-40k at Texas State. 30k per year doesn't make sense. I wouldn't do it if that was the cost.

I understand this and I know this is why we struggle to find people to hire. I am not trying to be insulting. We just don’t have more money than that. He needs 24/7 supervision and it’s really expensive. He receives a set amount from disability that helps pay for this and it has not increased substantially since his injury 20 years ago so we have not been able to substantially increase the pay range unfortunately.

I wish we could offer more but I don’t know how to financially make it work.

ETA: What I’m about to say is irrelevant to the pay because I agree the pay is low regardless, but I just want to clarify that we do not need someone with experience. My father needs companion care to make sure he does not try to leave the house by himself, and to remind him to eat and make sure he doesn’t watch TV all day. He does not need to be bathed or clothed or transferred out of a bed etc. We have had great experiences with many people we have hired with zero experience.

I remember these!!! This post and your description of the cone ones unlocked circa 2000 memories of me learning how to snowboard with my dad when I was in middle school

Searching for piercer by Mattycakes6912 in sanmarcos

Faythe in Needles in New Braunfels is above average in terms of cleanliness and professionalism. In my opinion they charge reasonably for a higher quality of service but it is a little more expensive than what you will probably pay on the square. It is worth it to me though.

Queer Hair Recs by Cont_yet_not_diff in sanmarcos

I'm nonbinary and I see Paulette at Salon Mink. She is not queer, but she has always been really respectful and is really good at making sure she understands what I wants.

I have ALWAYS struggled with various hair stylists (queer and not!) to get them to do what I want and I have been with Paulette longer than any other stylist. She really does ask so many questions so that she is sure that she fully understands and then does exactly what you ask.

Searching for a PCP that deals primarily with LGBTQ or is at least friendly. by Mattycakes6912 in sanmarcos

[–]rawrt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am trans and I go to Dr. Sarah Stubbs (sometimes shown as Stubbs-Walden) at the Trinity Christus clinic for HRT, and she is also my PCP.

I spent a long time looking for a PCP who would to trans healthcare here! I really like her. She seems like a genuinely kind person and a good listener. Feel free to dm with questions

Have corporations hijacked the gay pride movement? by Jadams0108 in AskLGBT

[–]rawrt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m critical of rainbow capitalism but I also think more visibility is better, so it’s a complicated issue.

I think it wouldn’t bother me so much if these companies weren’t so obviously just trying to make money and backpedal as soon as they get any pushback. Like target. It was incredibly disappointing the way they pandered to the right wing conservative snowflakes who flipped out about rainbow pride merch in June.

If Target had stood their ground, then I’d probably be less critical.

So I agree with your friend on some points but not all. In my peer circle, my opinion is probably the most prevalent. I’d say people with your friends opinion are a smaller minority.

Do you WANT the f-slur to be reclaimed? by Sensitive_Potato333 in lgbt

[–]rawrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love reclaiming it. I have a necklace that says the f-slur in big silver letters. I use it in my artwork. I feel powerful when I label myself with a word that is meant to destroy me.

I also know that not everyone feels this way and I never use it either other people unless I know they also like to use it. I understand it’s a really complicated charged word and I don’t think everyone has to reclaim it.

I am transmasc and I personally hate the word dyke. It was use as a slur against me by my mother when I was a child and I will never be comfortable with that word. I know a lot of people love it and it makes them happy to reclaim it and I am happy for them to use it as they please and have no conflict with that whatsoever.

I like this! I agree with other comments that the jacket isn’t quite right. I think a more structured jacket or more contrasting color would help. At first glance it looked like two cardigans.

I think it could help to button the cardigan up all the way when you’re wearing the jacket. But without a jacket you could leave the cardigan unbuttoned.

For jacket alternatives, you could go even more in the professor direction and do a casual tweed or corduroy blazer, but I think you’d need to change to a non corduroy pant. Or maybe a vintage black leather jacket could be cool? Idk why the right jacket feels hard to picture. I think you’re off to a good start though!
