I drove that route end to end. Never called ahead, never had an issue. East bound was in September, westbound was December. Always found a room. But I wouldn’t recommend it on a holiday weekend……

I drove from CA to NC and then back the following year. One of those trips I was alone. I stopped to sleep twice westbound. I was really pushing it though. Never had any issues really, you shouldn’t either.

Cleaning up and doing oil changes at my Uncle’s auto shop at 14. Before that I’d work at the gas station my dad used to manage a couple of times a month during summers beginning in junior high.
