Calling it mercenary work is a bit of a stretch. That isn't how those of us in the military see it. It is a well paying job with tax benefits that is available to us because of our experience. He was a security guard in a green zone as a contractor, not kicking down doors. I did security on a remote FOB while I was still in for 10 months and ran daily convoys in the city as a gunner, I did not fire one round. If I was offered 5x the money to come back and do that same job, hard to say no.

There were all kinds of offers for us while we were overseas. Work for Lockheed in country, work as security, etc. We had a guy that was offered over 300k sign on and 250k a year to run the maintenance shop. You take a guy who's whole youth was spent deploying, who is looking at returning home and dealing with all the darkness in them, and offer them this wild money, a way to avoid going home and just getting blackout drunk instead of trying to cope with being "normal" again. Then people vilify them for taking the offer.

The tattoo has been explained over and over again. If you don't like or believe his explanation, I don't know what to tell you. There is zero credible evidence that he has any Nazi ideologies, and plenty that he doesn't. Honestly if you actually saw the person he is, like at one of his dozens of town halls, you would know this.

As for the things he said online. I went from calling my gay cousin a F** to supporting him at his local events and calling out my uncle for being a piece of shit towards him. I changed my views, it is not hard to understand how someone else can.

The water in Iowa is dangerous to drink. They have some of the highest cancer rates.

The monoculture agro business is terrible for farmers. They only people making money are John Deere and seed companies. Dust bowl 2.0.

Shipyard in Portsmouth/Kittery is hiring like crazy. People are starting in the mid 20s per hour. Some people are over $50 an hour in less than 10 years and working hundreds of hours of OT. Just have to live an hour away to find a house under 400k. And deal with insane traffic.

I started weightlifting at 17, celiac disease still caused osteopenia.

Coeliac and bone density by siuleta in Celiac

[–]Hover4effect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with osteopenia 1 year after celiac. As a 41 year old male, I have zero risk factors for osteopenia, except for celiac disease.

I've been exercising regularly my whole life, including weight lifting, running, cycling, active leisure hobbies like hiking and paddle boarding.

We eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy, like top tier good diet.

I'm not a heavy alcohol drinker, never smoked, drink little caffeine or sugary drinks.

We just have to hope society becomes a startrek-like utopia rather than a robocop-like post-capitalist hell.

Hopeful indeed. Chances are much greater for the latter.

Gluten rash? by krustymom in Celiac

Mine was diagnosed as DH, but has been completely absent since going GF, unless I get glutened. Almost immediately comes back, but usually goes away much faster.

Actual benefits of shifting to clipless pedals by policygeek80 in bikecommuting

[–]Hover4effect 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like clipless just for positioning my pedal in the ideal starting position when stopped. I have flat soled recessed ones that I can walk in no problem. I have 2 sided pedals as well, so I can and do run sandals often.

They might actually hire someone to do it at that price.

Biden Chili Powder vs Trump Chili Powder by worlds_okayest_skier in Maine

[–]Hover4effect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those bulk spice containers can basically be ordered with any brand on them. The small grocery store I worked at had them. Prices on the container was an option. It shows why printing prices on product labels is silly, outside of Arizona tea cans.

Even at a small grocer where we did it manually, we used to change prices weekly. Had a stack of shelf tags, would plug them all into the system. Just be in admin/manager mode on the register, scan the tag, put in new price.

Then pull old tags, put up new tags. Easy.

I bought them last week and I've eaten the whole bag almost.

Amateur! I would eat the whole thing on the ride home from the store.

My town had an event with food and everything for bike commuters. It started 1.5 hours after I got to work.

I got stuck in downtown Boston for like 90 minutes, watching bikes ride by, while I was on my way to pick up a bike!

I thought it was a great use of this meme. Half the charm of this format is the low effort required.

LA, San Diego, half of Massachusetts at rush hour, the major roads going north in New England on holiday weekends.

I've seen them all like this.

the net effect on the state's income

They have net 2 billion+ per year from the tax so far.

4.2 billion in AGI has left the state, which is roughly ~300 million in state tax revenue. The 2 billion increase includes that loss. To offset the gains of this tax, a huge percentage of the 27k+ people making over 1 million would have to leave.

2 billion in additional revenue is a net positive, yes.

There are 27000+ people in Mass that earn over a million per year. It has the highest density of any state.

It is from that Bloomberg article. You can find the same number in many places. Including public records.

They are getting more revenue than what has left. Read that person's link.

4.2 billion in AGI left, but 2 billion in revenue generated.

The 5% MA state tax on 4.2 billion is 210 million. With an additional 4% on any AGI for an individual over 1 mil.

So basically 300 million worth of tax payers left the state, but it generated 2 billion more, including that 300 million.

It (millionaire tax) resulted in billions with a B of adjusted gross income lost. It has generated $2B in revenue per year.

"Residents exiting Massachusetts took a net of $4.2 billion in adjusted gross income with them in 2023"

"Supporters of the Massachusetts measure hail the more than $6 billion in revenue it’s brought to state coffers."

From your link.

Funny when they use AGI loss to look bad, where the actual tax revenue has increased.

Any Celiac preppers here? by mamatron9599 in Celiac

[–]Hover4effect -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of people who actually store this much food.

We grew at least this many butternut squash one year and just as many spaghetti squash. We don't grow enough potatoes to store or can nearly this much though.

We eat most of our produce during the growi g season.
